There is a module used that works the delay timing. The earlier years had a additional green wire from the switch to the motor for delay to work the module.

I don't know much about B-body stuff, and apparently I don't know crap about Bonnevilles.

What year car are you working on? The reason why I ask is there was a change in the wiper motor design. First design is the 78-83 large style motor. Second design is the 84-88 small style motor. Each design has a unique motor for use with the delay option.
There is a switch and relay assembly that is not included when you buy a new washer pump.

69hurstolds : Bonnevilles were built on the G body platform from 82-86 when they renamed the big cars Parisienne and killed the LeMans nameplate

Well wtf. I always thought they were B bodies. I followed Pontiacs 0% after the last real GTO and barely paid attention to the firebirds...

All that shiit I said earlier about B bodies? Scratch that. Well, if you do have a B body you can use it, but if it's a G-body, forget it.

Thank you for the correction.

Since you have an '85 you need the later design. It is positive switched and doesn't interchange with the earlier negative switched type. The total syatem requires a delay wiper motor/pump, delay wiper switch in the column, and the correct harness between the switch and the wiper motor. If you look you may already have the correct harness in the column. They may have just left the green wire unused. If not it is easy to run a new one as long as the connector has a spot for it. GM usually puts all the wiring options in place to cut down on parts.

I saw this thread & after reading through thought I would ask (since its subject related)....
If one has a pre-80 G car w/no delay function, what will it require to have a funtional delay system?

I have a '78 w/no delay. I was under the impression a delay type switch for sure & delay spec motor. Just wasn't sure of anything else required OR if there was an aftermarket alternative that possibly updates the entire system?

The wiring vaires for the '78-'81 dash switches for the delay. The easiest set up is the '81 with a single green wire that needs ran from the delay switch to the delay wiper motor. I have that set up for converting my '81 to delay with the wire added into my factory harness as the original set up had the green wire going thru a drilled hole in the firewall. '80 might be the same but I don't have my wire diagrams handy.
