My 427 ate a rrod bearing hurt 1 piston needs a rod re sized ,debating on building a 406 sbc or a 496 ,but I want a motor that will be just as fast as my 427 was figure it probably made 500 ish ,and LS swap is out of the question don't have know interest in them . I can get a good rotating assembly for the 406 for a good price 600$ but I'd have to get heads for it all I got is a bunch of double humps and vortecs , figur it's 200lbs over a big block too , thoughts??

My first built big block was a 496 with Dart heads and a roller cam, that thing was a beast in my Monte and way more street friendly than my current set up.
Back then the Callies Stealth was one of few stroker crankshafts available nowadays you can buy a whole rotating assembly for what I paid for just the crank.

There's no replacement for displacement. If we are discussing big displacement motors I always say bigger is better. Go 496. The 406 might drive nicer though. All that weight off the front end and all that but you wanted power first so that's what my peanut gallery says, 496.

Would it be a dumb move to put together the 406 since it's gonna be cheaper and chip away at a 496 and buy better parts instead of a cast crank, cheaper rods and cheaper forge pistons ,and use my fresh iron rect. Port heads and old SR cam?? ,that's what I'd be able to afford at the moment and sell the 406 down the road ,I'm running a S-T10 486 gears ,150 shot

It's your time and money. Do it how is best for you. We don't have a budget with your money so it's easy for us to armchair quarterback you into a 10k motor. Since budget is a concern, if probably do the SBC as stout as possible. It is never worth building a motor on the cheap or cutting corners. It will only cost more in the long run

Repair the bbc and up date the rods and pistons
😂😂😂What you mean update the pistons and rods the pistons (l88) were only 40+ years old, rods (Crower) are going to be freshened up resized ,got a really good deal on the rotating assembly pistons were new old stock replacements kinda ashame but owell

Well the 406 rotating Assembly consistents of , eagle lightened crank int. Balanced, eagle h beams ,SRP pistons ,all been balanced for 600$ and probably end up using world products sportsman heads not a bad quickie motor
