Every once in a while I throw a set of N 50 X 14 tires on my El Camino that are at least 40 years old and do burnouts. I am surprised that the tires have not come apart on me but they are holding up well due to being indoors most the time. Doing burnouts on my country road is one of the only things that makes me feel young again.

Bias ply tires are a whole different story than radials. They seem to stay together longer, sometimes decades.

Yet for some reason they want you to toss trailer bias plys after 3 years, no matter what the condition. Makes no sense.
It's all about liability.

I tried buying a pair of 265/70/16 10 ply tires for a tow behind trailer built from a truck frame so they'd match the tow vehicle, interchangeable spares... Made the mistake of towing the trailer to the tire place instead of removing the rims and putting it on blocks.

Guy looked out the window and said nope. Because it's gonna be towed won't sell me anything but the 205 series "trailer tires" that they carried.

Left, went elsewhere. Just brought in a pair of rims. They happily, in ignorance, sold me a pair of tires with higher speed rating, higher load rating, and higher ply count than the "mandatory trailer tires" had.
