I’m trying to identify the wires to connect an aftermarket radio to my 80 Malibu.
Would the correct wires be Yellow, Gray and Black all going to a female plastic connector?

Yellow is +12V goes to the #13 fuse marked "radio".
Black is ground,
Grey is for the dash illumination.

You will also have to tap into an orange wire (fused but not switched/ always on circuit) for the memory wire on the aftermarket stereo.

Thanks so much. That helps.

I installed an aftermarket radio years ago and I never figured the memory part out. The new radio saves the audio settings and radio presets, however, does not return to the last used source; it defaults to standby mode after each shut off.

Do you think this is a memory wire issue or a radio setting issue? its a Kenwood by the way.

Probably has the memory wire hooked to the switched 12V. There should be two sources for the orange wire near the radio.

The courtesy light wires should cross the dash from side to side, the wiring will be orange and white, orange is non switched 12V power and the white is ground through the door switches.

The cigarette lighter wires should be orange and black, orange being non switched 12V and the black is a standard ground.

When I was trying to wire my illumination wires I used a post wiring up gauges that is no longer open for replies but it said that it uses a dark green wire which when I used it now lights up my head units when I hit the brakes for use a turn signal which means it is one of the tails. From this post I was taking the grey wire to mean on the head unit wire harness side which is it on the car?
