Has anyone here made their own headliner backing? I ordered a T-top headliner from PUI through a vendor and its been backorded for a while.

I have been thinking of getting a 1/8" composite, or hardboard and cutting it to fit the T top and using fabric adhesive to attach headliner fabric to it. I would loose the coat hooks which is fine, but the rest of it looks straight forward except for where it angles down towards the rear glass?

The biggest issue with the "regular" one is that the mounting areas niches for the coat hooks are shallower on the non-T-top cars. Never tried it, but I think there will be some problems in that area. Just a guess.
I did not know that. Of course making their own it sounds like they’re going to lose the coat hooks anyway so it wouldn’t really be a big deal? Personally I never put the coat hooks in anyway because who really uses those.

Ended up making my own headliner for my T-Roof 86 Monte Carlo SS for approximately $50.

Used a piece of 4'x2' 1/8 hardboad from Home Depot (~$7), got some suede looking headliner fabric from Amazon ($25) and used 3M 90 high strength spray adhesive ($20).

I cut the 1/8 hardboard to fit the roof area between the rear upper quarter panel trims, rear inner windshield metal trim and front T roof trims, then covered it with the headliner fabric. I think it came out good enough, although I am losing about 1.5" of headroom and lost the coat hooks, but I don't really care that much. If I end up sourcing a PUI roof liner panel at the right price I may change eventually.

Hey, that's a good idea. I like the creativity as well as saving $$- I need a headliner for an Astro roof but am choosing to wait so this is a viable option. Could you please post a couple more shots from inside the car? It looks good but I'm detail oriented. Thank you.

I think it looks pretty damn good. Is the original more curved along the sides?
