i got a 86' ss, i recall seeing posts bout a factory wire that can and has caused probs. IDK where to begin with a search on this and i've tried and got everything BUT. am i hallusinating & FOS? i got a upcoming shop deal bout to go down after j4 and its gonna be my last for R&R. could also be 1 of those mandela effect things cuz i know think seen somewhere & wasn;t a concern at the time, almost wanna say its in the ignition area. tia

Im thinking brown wire which initiates the alternator and is sense wire for volt gauge or idiot light. The next other I can think of is the green which if I remember correctly powers the electric choke.

The pink fires the distributor and 14g which in reality could be 18g and not cause an issue. The other lines mentioned are not that forgiving when corrosion or damage increases their resistance.

The sense wire to the alternator connects to the starter it is a 10 g if I remember correctly. If this corrodes or gets damaged can cause issue to charging system.

Are you thinking of the fusible links at the starter? They are undersized intentionally as a safety/circuit protection item.

i had what may have been an electrical spook last sept which why looking into this. my oil sensor blew almost costing the motor. before i could get to a place the oil gauge was taken out and the choke light started faintly flashing before staying on at all times except when car not running. i was told the oil & choke light share same circut, just wish paid attn when i thought seen the post.

In my '86 service manual I don't see any out of place wire for anything gauge cluster related. Now for this year & later the alternator circuit 25 brown wire has a diode near the C100 in the dash harness but only for the warning light cars. The oil/choke sensor has two circuit 250 brown wires unlike earlier years which that 2nd brown wire goes to the idle stop solenoid relay for LG4 & L69 engines & RPO NB1 regardless or warning light or gauge dash. As for the shared circuit for the oil/choke light, it'll be the tan circuit 31 wire for the light only & the dark green/white circuit 931 for gauges for the Choke light. The choke heater's light blue circuit 78 wire shares the same terminal in the connector & blade on the sensor as the light wire, circuit 250 uses the other blade. This all is the same for '87 & '88 in those books too.
