Gauge / Cluster repair 78 Malibu

I have a 78 Malibu classic with two gauges (fuel and speed). Neither works. The speedo use to bounce around the speed I was going and has since stopped reading at all. The fuel shows Im at full all the time until gas is low, then it begins jumping to empty. Blinker indicators also don't read. Do...

    Replacing steering column/attempted theft

Thanks for the input on this. I actually found a guy who does nothing but steering column repair out of his home. He did everything for me (parts and labor) for $125 in less than 24 hours. Looks like new.

    Replacing steering column/attempted theft

Do you think I'm going to have many more problems beyond the cosmetic?

    Replacing steering column/attempted theft

Ok, so someone tried to steal my 78 malibu classic yesterday. Only reason I left it at home was because the battery was dead. So the poor amateur, try as he might, couldn't make off with it. He only managed to destroy all mechanisms within the steering column though. He didn't even think to try...

    Wiring diagram for alternator

I have an engine on a cradle I want to run for an extended period, but have no idea how to wire up the alternator. Does anyone have a diagram for this? What parts do I need to buy beyond the alternator wires? I have the starter and distributor and battery all hooked up for short runs I'v given...

    URGENT electrical help

There is no power to the CTSY CLK fuse or to the BACK LAMPS fuse. What do I need to check now, or do from here? From what I read in the owner's manual, the headlights aren't even on the fusebox. It says they are on a circuit breaker at the light switch. So, I'm stumped as to why they won't work...

    URGENT electrical help

I have a 78 malibu, and I have no idea what's going on with my wiring. My radio is out, my interior lights are out, my locks are out, and my HEADLIGHTS are out. I'm guessing this is not a fuse, plus I didn't see any bad fuses when I checked. What do I need to check? Other than that...

Brakes lights aren't working, NOW WHAT?

This for my 1978 malibu classic So a couple in an SUV let me know at a stop light yesterday that my brake lights weren't working. This has happened before, but due to a short. They magically began working again without me touching anything. So, I'm not sure what to do. Does anyone have a...

    exhaust leak...popping!

I just put full length headers on my 78 malibu, but I'm getting that rumble/backfire sound from my passenger side during deceleration. I know I can tighten the header down a tad still, but I noticed a small hole on the #6 cylinder tube. It's probably only large enough to stick a needle in, if...

    Dual exhaust conversion

True. I also found out that if I raise the cross member, it would raise the transmission, which would raise the engine, which would raise the exhaust...so it was pointless. I'm putting on some purple hornies which bolt up right to the headers, so I can't just go to the passenger side...wish I could...

    Malibu Owners Sound Off

Howdy all. I'm new to this forum, but it looks like a great place for me. I'm from San Antonio and I own a 1978 malibu classic landua edition. It was originally a 305ci with a 200 metric transmission. Since inheriting it from my father (original owner), I've put in a 350/290hp Gmperformance crate...

    Dual exhaust conversion

I've read a lot of stuff saying I need to modify my crossmember to covert over to dual exhaust. I just wanted to find out if anyone had ever just used shims to raise the crossmember just enough to allow the exhaust to clear. From what I can tell, raising it even an inch would be plenty of...
