    1980 Grill

Yep. Me too. Never been reproduced. Most old ones are peeling at this point. A 1981 will bolt on and use the same headlight surrounds.

Does anyone here regret their auto to manual swap?

Small things to be grateful for: A manual A/G body means never having to adjust the gear indicator cable clip when you fix the steering column...

Does anyone here regret their auto to manual swap?

As the world goes toward jellybean cars that deliver you like an Amazon package, rowing your own gears gets you more engaged in the journey. Put down the phone and do the thinking for the car.

MONTE CARLO 700r4 swap 87 Monte

An F-body 700-R4 can donate the mechanical speedo tailhousing even if the rest of the trans is toast. I'm not positive, but I think you can swap the reluctor ring for a plastic speedo gear and retainer clip. The internet or Forum will provide clarity. Don't despair - you are on the right path...

MONTE CARLO 700r4 swap 87 Monte

If you proceed with the plan just mentioned, replace the pump seal and the rear main on the engine. Easy, since it's a one-piece. Then you have less to leak. The flex plate on the engine will match the 3-bolt pattern on the converter. If you modify the 700-R4 with the lockup conversions...

MONTE CARLO 700r4 swap 87 Monte

The 'Gxx' codes on the right side of the RPO tag will tell you what gear you have. Might be a 2.56. A better shot might help. It sounds like you have the better 96+ 350 with the Vortec heads. Also nice because that engine is set up for a roller cam. If you swapped in any old HEI distributor, be...

MONTE CARLO 700r4 swap 87 Monte

Nice thing about the 4.3 is it came with a baffled tank to support its in-tank fuel pump. If you are not hot rodding the 350, you can swap the pump to support an EFI 350. Easiest option is to locate a 2wd 87-95 pickup with a 350/700R4 or an 87-92 disCorvette donor and use the heads and...

    Th200 lockup?

That looks like a non-computer lockup setup. When you stomp on the gas, the vacuum switch senses lower vacuum when the carb opens up, breaking the circuit, enabling the torque converter to unlock let to the transmission downshift. The four-pin plug goes into the transmission. There should be a...
