So I had a mission today. I decided I didn't trust the dry wall installers to not screw me concerning my speaker placement in the ceiling. The speakers use the same style mount as a remodel electrical box. Little sliding dog ear with a screw to pinch it against the backside of the sheetrock. They make brackets for the speakers to use during construction, really just for the sheet rock guys. They are $11 each and have horrible reviews. I figured I could make something horrible for less money 🤣
Pounded these out quick when I got to work before the work day started. Just 1/8" pvc sheet, a 9.5" circle, with some wings welded on for strips to screw them to the rafters. Here's the final results.
Now that all seems nice and easy, until you go to do it. I started installing them below the can lights, then realized they (the can lights) were installed opposite on each side. The cans have a "lump" for the electrical portion and that affects how close or far away something can be next to it. Of course both the lights and the speakers have grills or trim rings which need to be accounted for. Hopefully I allowed enough room for the light trim rings. There wasn't one around so I just had to guess they weren't more than two inches wide. So long story short I had to move the speakers brackets above the lights. I think it worked out for the best anyways after stepping back and looking at them. So I get three in, measured up from the wall, square to each other, the lights, etc. Go to do the fourth and that's when the fun started. I realized there was almost no gap between the light and the bracket, where as the the one on the same wall had a 1.5" gap between them. Realized they didn't put the light in the same, square position as the others. Had to fight to get the nails of it without destroying the light to move it and reposition to the correct spot. Just to top things off, I had just found all of the nails in the light were never pounded in so I drive them right in. Then realized the light wasn't positioned properly. Ahhhhh! It's done, that's the important part. I need a beer. LOL
