Will a posi unit out of a 1998 camaro fit in a 7.5 housing? Has any body put in a posi unit if so what will fit and ring and pinion. I want to put a posi in and come with a 3.73 gear. Can anybody help with some part numbers

Yeah it should fit with no issues both ring and pinion along with posi unit, part numbers I don't know off hand. But seeing as it's a 98 Camaro i'm assuming its a a Zexel torsen unit right? If so I helped my buddy redo his 7.5in axle along with 28 spline GN axles and a girdle holding up to his lt1!

Check the spline count on the Camaro carrier and on your current carrier. I believe the Camaro carrier has 28 splines and your axle originally had a carrier with 26 splines. 28 Spline axles can be found used or bought new. Summit and Jegs among others have all the parts, buy axles based on your car, with the correct splines for the new carrier, Buy gears based on info from the Camaro you get the carrier from.

I've run into that before, and let me tell you it was very very unpleasing to find that out.

Yeah it is a Zexel torsen unit. It as has a 28 spline. What is a good brand name gear for performance? So am I going to need to buy new axles too?

I did the very same thing, using a 2000 Camaro posi and installing a set of moser axels with 28 splines and a braced cover on the back.

If you want to use 3.73 gears you have to be sure to get a carrier from a car that came with stock gear codes, GU3 (3.08), GU5 (3.23) or GU6 (3.43) rear gears. Preferably GU5 or GU6.
I would use gears from any of the name brand manufacturers, And yes you need new axles. Moser axles P/N A102801 are about $260, I believe these use a 7/16 wheel stud
Moser axles P/N A102808 should use 12mm wheel studs BUT you have to check with them yourself to be sure.

The 3.08 is the lowest that fits a 2 series carrier on a G body carrier...
