Monte Carlo hood question

The original hood that came with my car has rust issues that are not worth fixing. The replacement hood that came with it seems to be aluminum but is much heavier. My hood springs aren't strong enough to hold it up. The original hood stayed up.
This doesn't seem right that the aluminum hood is heavier than the steel hood.
Anyone else run into this

Seems to be? Take a light duty refrigerator magnet or similar (maybe a rockauto picture magnet you get in each order) and see if it sticks. That will tell you for sure.

Aluminum hoods on the Cutlass are definitely lighter than the steel hoods. It wouldn't surprise me, though. The original ram-air fiberglass W-25 hoods from the 70-72 Cutlass/442s was just as heavy or heavier than the steel hoods.

So they guy told me it was aluminum but it is not. It is a steel hood but it is very noticeably heavier than the original hood. Why would one steel hood be drastically heavier than another.

Aftermarket?

I haven't found any bondo. It looks like it was either new aftermarket or nice refinished older hood that has a some dings and nicks in it from sitting off a car in a storage unit. I'm just going find a different set of hinges to try or put regal style hydraulic cylinders on it
