3rd brake

I do have a lot of odds and ends. I am in no way a hoarder. I started collecting parts from the yards to help guys get parts they needed to fix up their cars. That’s how I always fixed cars up growing up. I know a lot of guys didn’t have access to the yards in the bigger cities.
When I came across a gbody at the yard, I would get anything of value BEFORE they got crushed. And usually within a week or two, it was gone. Had some health issues over the past several years but have the time to start going through stuff.lol

I modified a third brake light and added a socket to use a single full size LED bulb instead of the grids they sell since my housing melted from a standard bulb

I believe I have a second 3rd brake light and the stuff to make another of the 3 little boards I put together to do mine

Sounds like the perfect one to modify

Although I am going to have to go back and work on mine, I believe some of the LED's in the boards I put on failed already. But was still a much better deal than what they are charging for the one that fits. Since mine was an 84 I had to put it in because to me I always liked the look of those 3rd brake lights
I figure if I can just get the needed bulb holder/reflector a Super Bright LED would be used.

I want to install one upside down in my el camino, flip the rubber grommet around and all to match contour, some kind of mounting base, etc. I imagine it looking great if it can look factory, or really stupid, but I gotta try at least.

Do you mean to hang it from the ceiling?

I've thought of doing something similar with the Mustang -- by modifying a resto-mod CHMSL sold for '67 Mustang coupes -- but in a mockup I didn't like that when hung from the ceiling of the fastback roof it would potentially block a good chunk of the view in the rearview mirror. Once I get back to planning that project I'll be investigating LED light bars, maybe something stuck to the window.

I had to buy a replacement rear window with defog for my 87 442, soooooo.....I accidentally bought a 1985 version. Oops 😁

Hutch

Same here but I just wanted the window replaced as there was a bad gasket after the fire so I took what Safelite gave me. Interestingly enough, per AACA rules it'd be a 3-point deduction when a Perfect Car has 400 points (assuming the judges know enough to notice the difference)

Way back when I had saved a light mount from a lates 80s gm something and planned to install it in my 84. It was more of a thought of safety for me. Anyway plans changed when I found a led 3rd brake lite bar on the top of a suburban at a junkyard. I wanted it under the rear wing. Found that the firebird wing was hollow so to run a wire inside from the center over to a pestal. Ran one wire to the brake switch and ground wire in the trunk.

Indeed

I just installed a premade red led board into my brake lamp housing.
