Just received my octane h4 headlight housings and they’re too short for the housing. I called octane and they say they’ve never seen this. If you can see the 4 bases that sit in housing are a bit shorter than the stock ones. They dance in the housing due to this.

From what I saw on their site is the 7x6 don't look like the lense is the right size to be seated between the bucket & retainer ring. But their 4x6 look like they would like the stockers. I went with Hella's for my '81 ( 4x6, has H1 high beams & H4 high/low beams) & my boy's '79 (7x6 H4 high/low beams). With certain modern 4x6 lights (ones with a different pattern for the connector blades) may not have the same type lense like the older seal beam units. I didn't dig into their listing for exact seal beam interchange.

Thanks for the response. I just took a look at the hella lamps. Look just like these. And these look just like the ones I returned to Amazon. 🤦🏽‍♂️

My 4x6 high beams were Amazon open box returns which were a killer price. The others were what one would expect for Hella lights.

Did you use the harness that is sold to put brighter lights? I am running led bulbs sp
Don’t think I need them. However now my low beams won’t work (alone) but if I pull headlight switch all the way out all 4 turn on

The bulbs are just standard/basic H4 & H1 halogen bulbs so in my opinion they'll be OK with the stock set up. I did for the '81 make my own OE looking adaptor harnesses as the pin outs for the 4656 bulb are different as the H4 bulb. If you don't have an adapter harness you'll need to re-pin the low/high. This should be that fix on Amazon.

I repinned it. Think it was green and beige that was swapped. And it only works on high beam. Now I do read some people talking about the turn signal lever being pulled to activate high beams but mine work off the switch left of steering wheel.

Going from the stock bulb to a H4 repin black to tan, tan to light green, light green to black. The high beam on our columns have a "double click" switch which to turn on & off you have to pull back. Modern cars have a push-pull set up with flash to pass with a half pull. I converted both columns over to flash to pass but still have the double click set up. Used the idea & high/low switch from the '76-'78 Chevette. Had to add a battery hot wire to the switch which comes off the Chevette headlight switch. Just had to replace the plastic connector for the needed cavity for the wire.

Got a pic of the final? I already swapped this all.

Here's the thread I posted the swap.
