Haven't updated the thread in awhile so here it goes.
I had plans of building another engine (Barney 2.0) 🤣, and had been collecting parts for some time. Finally got off my butt and started on it.
Cleaned up a used crankshaft with some crocus cloth and installed it. Already had new Sealed Power LQ9 flat top pistons mounted on some used gen 4 rods. Checked ring gap and it came in around .022".

Thrust bearing clearance came in very tight, but acceptable at .003"

Ordered more misc parts and another few weeks goes by, I got some more time to spend on it. Started trying to finish the short block. Cam Dynamics camshaft, new Melling oil pump, Cloyes timing chain and chain damper bracket installed.
I'm hoping the cam will do what I want. With the tighter lsa, should idle ok and make enough vacuum for the brakes, yet the big exhaust duration and decent lift will help the heads breathe.

Go the heads installed after I measured for quench and ordered .040" Cometic gaskets with 4.035" bore. This will put my compression right around 10.8:1

Measured for PTV clearance and should have plenty

Finished bolting the heads on with ARP bolts, not studs. I'm not going to make enough hp to need any more clamping force. These were the used rec port 821 heads that I bought and sent out to Texas Speed to have their cnc port job done. I sent the PAC valve springs and retainers with them, along with the lightweight LS3 intake valves.

I used an ICT Billet valley cover to delete the knock sensors.

I pressed apart the rocker arms and installed the Brian Tooley shaft rocker arm system. This should help with any deflection. Still need to get my pushrods ordered along with a couple misc items, like the intake bolts.
