1983 Big Block Monte Slow Build (Lowered Expectations)

They are. But it was a true bolt-on adaptation which allowed me to hit the easy button & focus on other stuff. Mine was the pre-Vortec serp version. Visually, I like that era better.

    1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham

...so the trick was to disconnect the fuel line at the carb and crank the engine, until fuel burped out of the line. Some sort of air purging. Then, reconnect the fuel line and crank the engine, ran fine-ish for a good 15s. Shut it because no coolant in yet. That is the next step.

no crank after new (refurbished steering column)

That is correct. 24x is 12v while the 58x is 5v. Yea I’ve been back and fourth from Holley forum to Facebook and beyond, I’ve looked at everything. Most say to check the runout of the cam sensor but if I replace it , it works fine. Like something is fouling out the sensors. I have my father in...

CUTLASS Cutlass excessive cranking before cold start

...have a clear plastic inline fuel filter spliced into the rubber fuel line in the engine bay, hopefully this will help me figure out how long it takes for new fuel from the tank to get to the carb during my cold start cranks. I'm hoping to be able to make some progress on this today or...

    Clutch shudder

Well i did it quick, here’s my setup. I am measuring .007 with a 24” 2x3 between the crank and timing cover pulling parallel to the crank. I dont really like prying on the timing cover. Although it is a pretty stout unit. Not sure where else to get a bite. Does anyone know the tolerance? I had...

What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2023]

It is there for safety reasons cause the crank is stock and they tend to bent easily

    Fusible link

Before I read your reply I just cut the fusible links out and hard wired it and everything works as it should. I just bumped the starter and it works but I didn’t know if I should try to start it without those fusible links installed. I didn’t want to ruined anything. I’m thinking I just got...

    72 Beetle project

Yeah, I would try that first. Hopefully the crank and rods are in still in usable shape and not a hulk of crusty metal.

    Fuel line Issues?

...line off the inlet to the carb, pushed on a hose that fits snug and run it in to a bucket and see if you're getting a good amount of fuel when cranking? Maybe the fuel pump, (is it mechanical on engine?) is bad or week? If you have a vacuum/fuel pressure gauge you can check that as well to...

    Harmonic Balancer ID - v6 3.8

231 / 3.8 had 2 different factories that made the crank. Same with 4.3 V6 S10 Vortec had same problem. You need the number on the crank.

...of a ground cable end, and the other lead to the body metal or engine block adjacent to (but not touching) the ring terminal and check it while cranking. The idea is to try and flow current through the connection/cable thereby stressing it with an electrical load, to see if any shows up on...

What did you do to your G-Body today 2024

...too long at the gym talking to my future ex wife and missed Sam's Club being open so had to go down the street. When I went to restart it slow cranked and just didn't want to turn over for a solid 20 seconds or so. So I waited a little bit and did it again but yet again failed to start, so...

    78 cutlass W-31 build

...I'm cleaning up parts I don't need and selling them. Today I learned how to drill and bore a proper pilot bushing hole in an Oldsmobile crankshaft. I'm going to do all my cranks before I list them here's some photos and I'll post a video. Ok nevermind they don't want to upload and as you know...

...the way to go for hydraulic. Speedmaster even makes a dual pattern flywheel for the Olds V8 with a removable weight for my internal balance 330 crank. TA has them for the Buick 350. Are all Buick V8's setup for manual transmissions? Olds V8's aren't, someone put a pilot bushing in my 330...

What did you do to your G-Body today 2024

...Admittedly it could be worse, the transmission still works after replacing the pump gasket and o ring, so I didn't **** that up, but the crank case is full of water now. Buick 350s changed water port locations slightly in about 73, so perhaps those spare NOS headgaskets I have were the wrong...

It might be time to sell and move on.

...How life can throw you an occasional curve, not expecting it. You go on from day to day thinking you'll still have the energy and vitality to crank on. I hope you're getting settled in. Your new shop is awesome. We all dream to have that kind of space to work on our projects and out of the...

Olds 330 crank and flex plate to 2004R

Personally, I would remove the bushing, and try it before I started grinding the converter. The hub of the converter indexes the centerline of the converter to the centerline of the crank. Bushings are cheap, if you ever wanted to put a stick in it.

    g body not cranking????'s

...on the 4spds, you had to shift the transmission into reverse!! Down on the reverse lever there was a back rod that was attached to a bell crank and linkage that ran up into the column. In reverse, that linkage pushed a rod inside the column that let the ignition move from off to lock and...
