GBOTM Congrats CM1SCW, December '23's G-body of the Month!

Well done. You have the perfect ext/int color combo....the optimal drivetrain....and the 17" N90 wheels really compliments the clean factory appearing exterior. I can't think of a single thing that would make this car any better than what it already is. You've got my vote for g-body of the year.

Ostrich - I just realized you had started this thread. I hope my posts don't come across as intruding on your thread........feel free to tell me to butt out if my posts are not welcome here.... :)

$55 plus shipping, I'm not sure what the USPS medium flat rate boxes go for these days.

I have a few clocked and welded. Also, RKE modules, jeep shafts, and stay-down license plate holders.

BUICK T-Type Feature from Motor Trend

This is my favorite vintage turbo buick article: https://uncletonysgarage.com/2018/07/31/way-back-machine/from-buick-with-balls/

Flipped truck manifolds with v-band flanges have proven themselves.

Front radiator support bushings very low

In my case, it became an issue when I swapped an 86 GP frame under an 86 442. I had always assumed the frame was slightly different.

I had the same problem....I used a pair of hockey pucks on each side.

    2002 5.3l for my swap

    Yup.....sell the 4l60e, buy a 4l80e.

    2002 5.3l for my swap

Yep.....been in both positions myself.....the hopeless feeling of facing a seemingly never ending project.....with the project completely torn down in my garage........ and breaking things up into manageable projects with an emphasis on keeping the car on the road.

    2002 5.3l for my swap

Some classify the ~2004+ gen 3 with gen 4 internals as a gen 4......some call it gen 3.5.....regardless of what you call it, an 04-06ish lq4 is the holy grail of ls truck engines.

    2002 5.3l for my swap

You had good luck getting a 45k mile gen 4 lq4 for $700.....whenever you bought it. The market has never been that low on a low mile 6.0. 45k mile engines don't really exist anymore. 145k would be on the low end of the spectrum nowadays. I routinely see complete running 5.3's for $5-700 and...

    2002 5.3l for my swap

Nothing wrong with wanting to get experience in building an engine. It's just that many projects get stalled and never finished at that point. It might be a better strategy to initially swap in the high mile engine and build a core while you work the bugs out of your swap.

    E85 guys... questions

The oil industry doesn't set the market price.....supply and demand in the market will naturally set the price. The following are at least partly responsible for the current high price of gasoline: lack of investment in refining/drilling capacity during Covid, shutting down of the Keystone XL...

    2002 5.3l for my swap

What was wrong with the engine that led you to the decision to tear it down? There are many complete, cheap, good running ls engines out there. It would be more economical to use a running engine as a starting point.

    Question:

Either would be decent if you are just building a cruiser. My personal preference would be the 6.0/4l80e.....6.0 will offer more potential if you want to swap cam and valve springs later on and the 4l80e is a superior trans. In my area, iron 5.3s are $500ish, iron 6.0s are around $1,000.....I...

    G-Body Parts Inflation

Wow.....my take home pay is certainly not 35-40% higher than it was in 2018.

    L67 Fbird Revision B

Can you expand on this......why is DBW undesireable? I've got a complete 2000ish 3800 in the corner of my shed that I am planning to swap into a g-body some day.

    L67 Fbird Revision B

You are probably aware of the 60 deg block to sbc trans adapter that speedway sells....but adding the cost of the 4l80e, custom torque converter to mate up to the 3800 flex plate, shorten drive shaft....etc. It's not an affordable option.
