So an update: Car started showing a major decrease in acceleration & struggling when stomping on gas, wanting to stall when coming to a stop, etc. Changed the fuel filter, the element in the blower & air filter. Didn't help much. Then I pulled these codes:
13 - O2 Sensor or Circuit
21 - TPS...
Cleaner. I thought I had WD40 but it was pretty much gone. I hit the carb w it pretty good too though & it did crank right over from a cold start. Something it hasn't done since I had it.
Well, I hit it all pretty well with cleaner, worked the linkage & let it sit for a few. As I was working the linkage I noticed the little metal arm moved pretty freely & had quite a bit of slack & was getting stuck in different positions where it loops through, causing the idle to get outta...
I haven't yet but was about to go do just that. You're talking about the accelerator linkage to the carb, correct?
Also, WD40 or Gumout carb/choke cleaner? I have both.
Thanks. Can I adjust this somehow?
I also forgot to mention that on one of the fast idle points, I tried turning the engine/car off & it kept puttering refusing to shut off.
Haven't had my 86 Monte base coupe long & am not the most mechanically inclined, but noticed right away the idle was a little off but never terrible. Anyway, flashforward to now I thought I'd hit the carb with some cleaner. Revving the engine by hand with the little arm under the hood (which...
Was looking for an 81-86 Monte Carlo hood ornament & he hooked me up for a fair price. Got a few badges too. Fast delivery & would def do business with again!
Yeah, they do look dinky in comparison. But I REALLY wanted white walls with those original wire hubs. I may get some spacers to push them out a bit. I can't find a pic though of the stock setup with them though so not sure how much I wanna push them out. I'm guessing maybe 1-1.5 inches?
Found the wheels. Got em pretty cheap & they came off an 81 Cutless, so a bit rusty. Gave them an acid bath, dried them, sanded off the flash rust & painted the fronts. They balanced well (one was a tad warped but they said it shouldn't be a big deal so I'll run em a while & see how goes it)...
Thank you guys. Is there a specific part number or markings I should look for on the wheels? Didn't know if they varied depending on say if they came off an s10, g body, etc. And I know a lot of yards don't keep up with what came off what.
I saw these on my local CL for cheap: http://i.imgur.com/nLmgFKW.jpg
Listing says they came off a '68 Impala & are 14x5 GM rallies (same bolt pattern) w 3.75" backspace. He said he measured them at 14x5.5 though but he thinks they're a 5 officially.
Would they work? I think I may have read...
No, I wish. I'd taken em for sure. I'm in North FL.
Thank you! I'll prob be here often now that I'm officially in the fam. :) Yeah, hubs need cleaned & polished but they're good to go. One was missing the medallion clip insert so I had to eBay it. Paid almost as much for that as the hub caps, lol.
Holy hell, $90 dollarydoos a piece?! Yeah, they are nuts. Esp if these wheels are common with all the different models over the years. So as long as they're the 14x6 GM "rally" at 5x4.75 pattern, they're all identical, backspacing & all that? That would help a ton, as I'm sure the pick a parts...
My ride is a 1986 Monte Carlo Base/Sport Coupe. When I got it, it already had some nice S10 Xtreme wheels on it w 16 inch tires, but I'd rather take it back to all stock I think. I ended up scoring the stock wire hubcaps for stupid cheap ($20 for all 4), so now I need the original wheels (and...
