what causes an engine to seize up?

Getting ready to pull a semi-seized up sbo 350 block and attempt to rebuild it. It will start and run with a low deep knock then it will grind to a halt after bout 3 minutes. It hasn't been started in 1 1/2 years. Just looking for a simple list of possible problems and maybe a few solutions.

i need some suggestions for my 86 cutlass

Nice car. I don't know much about the 307, but the 350 is somewhat fun. But, if the motor is running good, then I'd run it as long as it will go. Maybe some of these options will help a little: Put on some better exhaust, maybe headers too. Upgrade your air intake system (what ever can be...

I want big tires on my cutlass help please!

I have 295/50/r15 on back and 215/60/r14 on front. The rear has air shocks and must have 80-100 psi to keep from wheel rub. If I take a sharp turn up a hill, opposite back shock will buckle and fold in. Still driveable, but slow. I get these shocks at local auto store for stock car. The...

which repair manual for 82 cutlass supreme

I see a variety out there on the internet. I've used chilton's and haynes before for other cars. The last haynes I used was for a third gen iroc and pissed me off quite a bit. How many different manuals are out there for an 82 olds cutlass supreme broughm, I think it use to have a 4.3, but...

Help with 82 cutlass project log

Thanks. The rust isn't too bad. I've started gathering tools like the wire brush and various rust sealing paints. We're gonna slowly work on it. The actual frame has alot of surface rust, but looks like it can be easily sanded off. We're thinking about sandblasting the whole car.

What kinda build do you have for that 455? How much? I love the big block sound, we use to call our olds when it had the 455, the helicopter.

Help with 82 cutlass project log

This is what I had before the sbo 350 was dropped in. 455 block and head cracked. I'm still running down costs on sbo 350 rebuild with a few hp boosting goodies. My general opinion is that the 350 had way better throttle response, vs. 455s dirt slow or extreme torque take offs. The 350 seems...

How to make #8 heads work. Waist of time?

Ok, sad but true, not much help here. So, I did a search for used olds heads #5, and couldn't find anything with a simple few searches. So, still don't know prices I might expect to pay. My next step will be to find out how much head work cost for the #8. I'm guessing nobody here wants to...

How to make #8 heads work. Waist of time?

Tyler, Texas; East of Dallas by 2 hours. How much can I expect to pay? Are they easily found in a junkyard/possible prices to pull myself? I've spent numerous hours reading all available resources on this website and I think I found where one could do enough work on them to get them flowing...

How to make #8 heads work. Waist of time?

I'm still in the planning stages for my 82 Cutlass. Getting ready to pull the motor 395558 2, not sure of year, but it does have #8 heads 411 929 or 829(can't remember numbers off the top of my head). Can these heads be worked to flow well for a 350hp build or will I be waisting my time and...

    newbie here 82 cutlass

I'm glad to find a board like this. I've had an 82 cutlass for 10 years. Originally I got it used with a 455 -TH400 - limited slip 7.5" rear (don't know the gears, but first will get up to about 55 mph). Blew the 455 about 5 years ago and replaced it with a 1978 sbo 350. Well, the 350 went...
