HAS ANYONE ON HERE CONVERTED TO A 12 BOLT REAR END WITH DISC BRAKES? I WAS GETTING READY TO ORDER A NEW 12 BOLT FROME MOSER ENGINEERING. THEY SHOW A DISC BRAKE OPTION FOR THE GBODY 12 BOLT. I CALLED TO ORDER A COMPLETE REAR END WITH DISC BRAKES AND THEY SAID THE CALIPERS COULD HIT ON THE FRAME RAILS. I JUST WONDERED IF ANYBODY HAS TRIED THIS YET AND WHAT PROBLEMS YOU MAY HAVE ENCOUNTERED.
The answer you got is ridiculous unless the rear ends they are building don't have the same measurements all the time. It's either going to hit or not. If they are selling the disk brake set up for a G body I would think they fit. I'd call back and speak to someone else.
I have a 12 bolt and inquired to ssbc brakes about a rear kit. They said their normal 12" kit made for the rearend on its original car would hit the frame rails on a G-body. Their smaller (10.5") kit will work however.
when they said on their original car were the using the original width rear end for a G body?...depending on the year of the 12 bolt it's either 2.5" wider or 4.5" wider than the original g body rear end width.
MOSER BUILDS THEIR HOUSINGS TO THE OEM WIDTH OF THE 7.5" THAT COMES IN A G BODY. THE DISC BRAKES THEY OFFER ARE WILWOOD WITH 11.44" ROTORS OR THEIR ECONOMY DISC BRAKE KIT WITH 11"ROTORS. I REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY OFFER THE OPTION IF THEY WON'T FIT. DOES ANYBODY SELL A DISC BRAKE KIT FOR THE 7.5" INCH REAR THAT THE CALIPERS DON'T HIT ON THE FRAME? YOU WOULD THINK IF THERE IS A KIT THAT WILL WORK FOR THE 7.5" THAT THE 12 BOLT HOUSING SHOULD WORK IF IT IS THE SAME WIDTH. MAYBE PUTTING A LS3 IN THIS THING WASN'T THE BEST IDEA. I GUESS IF I HAVE TO I CAN GO WITH DRUMS ON THE BACK.
I just put a Moser 12 Bolt in my 84 H/O resto. The trick is to have them put ford style axels on the rear and just get new big ford style brakes or torino style brakes. Everything else bolts up perfectly to the GM setup. Measure the length you want from axle to axle and they will cut it to fit perfectly. Also, the wilwood brakes they sell do not come drilled and/or slotted, so the ford style brakes are the way to go. Call Moser and ask to speak to Foz. He knows his stuff and helped me with this setup within the last month
