I'm a "new old guy" and I have a clutch question.
I have an 80 Malibu that back in 1986 I installed a small block 400 engine bored to 406 cubic inches. Over the years this car has sat in the garage and the last time I moved it it had a torque converter leak from setting. I'm not thrilled with the 350 automatic and have started buying the parts to do a 4 speed conversion.
I received the flywheel today from Rock Auto for the 11" clutch. I just happen to have a couple of 11-7/8" clutches laying around in the garage. Some refer to this as a 12" truck clutch. The original applications were 30 series pickups, P30 stepvans, 6.2L diesels, 454's, and retrofitted Cummins 4BT in the P20's and P30's. The pressure plate from this application is a direct bolt up to the 11" 168 tooth flywheel.
So my question is have any of you used this clutch application? I have the 11" bellhousing from OPGI en-route.

My only concern is the RPM rating of the clutch which would rarely if ever exceed 6500 RPM's.
I know I will need to check the pressure plate to bellhousing for interference. I know that there are bellhousing spacers out there if there is any minor interference.
So does anybody have any thoughts on using this type of truck clutch?
