FYI - a 1/4" of room is plenty as long as your upper a-arm bushings aren't worn out or you don't plan on filling the back seat with 3 fat people.

edit - 1/4" of room from the tire, not the rim.

i could stack washers to make up for the 1/2" in BS just to see. that should simulate a 5" BS

I have 15x10 5" BS wheel vintique Pontiac Rally with a 275/60 Drag radial.

I need to run a 1/4" spacer or the tire hits the frame. The wheel clears fine. Even with the spacer I have a clean spot on the frame where the tire rubs when the tire shudders and wads up.

would you mind posting a picture when you have time. I could stack washers to make up for the 1/2" in BS just to see. that should simulate a 5" BS.

This is important too. The body rolls when you turn and it closes up that inside clearance quick. My slicks used to rub when I would turn out of the staging lanes on to the track. You need a lot more clearance than you think.

Depends how much weight is in the trunk lol.

I have moog 5409. It seems lower than factory but all I had to go off was sagged out 35 year old springs. I had 5401 and they were a significant drop. Probably 27" to the fender lip.

That 27" fender lip number from @81cutlass is w/that spring & tire combo.

If you're trying to 'guesstimate' where your set-up might be, keep your tire height in mind (if it's different). Some tires run 'wider' as well even when they're the same size vs another manufacturer.

even if i wanted to go with a 9 or 9.5 rim the selection is very little in a 15in what I'm looking for. i personally own a few G body's and i don't get how some people are running the sizes they say they are running they must have notched frames or rear end mods done or swap out rears and not saying i already tried a 15x10 with a 4.5bs and a 15x10 with a 5.5bs the 5.5bs was the only one that fit but was very close to the frame. I'm not even close to picking a brand of tire yet

Agreed & that's why I posted what I did. What works for one guys set-up does not automatically mean it works for them all. Number one reason why I always tell guys to get a wheel that they can use as a 'baseline' & go from there. Start w/a standard 15x6 or 7" steel wheel w/known back-spacing dimensions. Then start playing around from that wheels limits to get a better idea of what fits your set-up.

They make a tool for the job but they're pricey unless you use it alot. There are several cheaper built options along the lines of this:

When you're measuring do both sides . It's a known fact that the rearend could be offset by 1/4" or more. When I did my Monte, I used Billet Specialites Street Lites 15x10 5.5" and a Frame notch/mini tub because I had 5 1/4" on one side and 5.5" on the other from the face where the wheel bolts to the axle to the frame. Also from the inside of the outer wheel lip to the inside of the wheel house that actually stuck out farther then the frame, mine measured 11.5". Another thing to consider is sidewall width. I.m running a 298/55 that has a 12" measured sidewall. 12. - 10=2. / 2=1." sticking out past the wheel. So now I have 6.5" of back space, then add clearance say 1/2" now you need 7". Measure and then double measure. Tires and wheels are not cheap anymore. I know just bought 2 more rears for mine the priced doubled since I originally bought mine.
