If your transmission is a BOP pattern, then the 400 will bolt up. That doesn't mean it will survive, but it will bolt up. Then all you really need is motor mounts and perches for a '78- '81 Pontiac 301/265 in a G-body. Start looking because they are getting scarce.
i found a parissean with a 4.9 in it what all will i need sorry to be a bother

I'm not sure about that one. It may or may not fit. I do know that Firebird perches will position the motor too high. I also tried '76 LeMans perches and they were WAY too high. Are they loose or in a car? If loose, try them.

I used a dual snorkle air cleaner from a 84 Camaro Z/28 and the hood just closes. RamAir manifolds from a 67-70 GTO fit nicely. I used a Jeg's double hump transcrossmember with my th350. The hardest (read most frustrating) part was the accessory drive.

The only mounts that work properly are the ones from a G-body 301/265. the basic frame mounts are pretty much all the same, just the placement in the frame my change but you must have the proper block mounts. Use a 70-up block since the proper block holes are all there. If you use a 69-down block, you need a adapter from Ames.

Other small parts I used were the throttle cable, schroud and fan, power steering hoses from the 301. Throttle cable brakets are different for pre72/post 73 intakes so make sure you have the right one for the intake used. You also have to transfer the fuel line to the left side along with the battery.

I am glad to see this thread. I am building a a.030 over 455 with a Scat 4.25" forged crank, Edelbrock round port heads and RPM intake and a Crower hydraulic roller cam. I have a Turbo 400 and a Ford 9" axle. All of this is going into a '86 Grand Prix 2+2. Once the engine is done late spring I will try to start taking pictures and documenting the build up.

That sound like an awesome screamer! I love Pontiac into Pontiac! Do start your own thread so we can follow along. There are quite a few Pontiac guys here so ask anything.

Yes everyone was trying to have me build an LS engine but everyone is doing that. I always remember the best times of my younger days were with a Pontiac powered car. So that is why I am doing it. There are not a lot of these 2+2 's around so it should be a little more unique. I would like to try some of the standing mile stuff, the car should be good for aerodynamics.
