x2 on the 455 , grab it up . Best hands down imo.... Wouldnt trade mine for any other. Stump pullin torque monster. I run weisco pro tru forged flat tops in mine and love em and it still runs on premium pump gas.464BBB

We've got the same pistons. How does yours run on premium? Mine doesn't seem to like 93 octane very much.

Are you running stage 1 valves and whats your overall timing at? I run my timing at 32 deg overall. What jets and squirters are in your carb?

Yea you can use any 455 buick piston as long as its the same bore dia.

Heres some helpful links and info:

1972 stock 455 Buick
Type: ohv V-8
Displacement, cid: 455
Fuel system: 1 x 4bbl.
Compression ratio: 8.5:1
Horsepower @ rpm: 315 @ 4400
Torque @ rpm: 450 @ 2800

I love the Low rpm torque there monster. Remember torque is king on the streets not HP.

I've got flat top pistons in my '70 Buick 455. You are correct about those water jackets in the later model years' heads. I tried using a set of '75 heads on my '70 block and the water kept leaking down into the oil pan.

OOPS! my bad. I should have said FACTORY Buick pistons. :blam:

Here's a link for 455 cast replacement pistons from T/A

Turns out its a 1972 (early 72, built in 10-71). Can I still use the 1970 pistons? What about these:

Also, what is the stock bore on this motor?

Thanks again.

STD bore is 4.3125 inches. As for those pistons, personally, I don't care for hypereutectics. They have a high silicone content. That tends to make the casting brittle, making them more likely to crack.
