I have an 85 monte(v8) and just removed the computer, so I need a new carb and distr. ... I want to put a 1973 qjet on there (I have one lying around... would rather save money and not buy a new one!) However I heard that pre76 carbs aren't compatible? Can anyone confirm if a 73 qjet would work? And any other tips for working with a computer delete monte? thanks in advanced!!!

It should work. Maybe the throttle body that has the linkage might not be compatible with your year throttle cable and trans TV cable, but may be adaptable. I think '73 was the first year for hot air choke, which can be upgraded to electric choke easily. Any idea what the Q-jet came off? If a 350, then I would think the jetting would be close enough for your V-8. Any '75 - '80 Chevy HEI distributor will fit and work.

i run the model 1904 qjet which is an 80's truck qjet 795 cfm on my 82 monte with a full roller 350sbc and it performs BEAUTIFULLY, love it in stop n go traffic, but it also performs well when WOT... which model is the 73 you have??? and as for the hei distributor, check out skip white performance... i buy most of my stuff from them cause most has a lifetime warranty, the prices are good, and the quality is just as good as name brand parts... the skip white 65k distributor is an EXACT match for the ACCEL 65k except its a fraction of the cost and it comes with a set of ACCEL 8.8mm 300+ ferro race wires for less than $80... just got the high torque mini starter from them and its pretty badass too, added an MSD sticker to it, lol... Alot of people will down talk the knock off inexpensive parts BUT if you add a $2 sticker to it, they cant tell the difference... lol... my buddy bought the ACCEL 65k dizzy and i bought the skip white 65k dizzy and they were literally IDENTICAL, except that mine didnt have the accel sticker on it and the vacuum springs looked better in MINE...

It came from a 454 corvette.... Not sure if that would work with a 305!! But I know it works with a 350... And what if it has a divorced choke... Would that work with my stock intake?

yes it should work, the secondaries on qjets only open as much as the engine requires, thats why alot of people think the secondaries are sticking or not opening, simply because the engine it is on doesnt need the 800cfm a qjet can produce... qjets get a bad name cause people NEVER rebuild them and most arent in proper running order... but a GOOD qjet will out perform ALOT of carbs out there... only thing i am not sure about is the choke on a 73 qjet... is the choke an intergral choke??? like is it on the side of the carb???? if so, and if the qjet is in good condition, than i dont think you will have any problems...

either way, edelbrock makes an electric choke conversion kit...

As far as I can tell the carb is able to fit... but I have a few questions regarding the intake... Can you help identify these ??? I am considering getting a new intake... any recommendations?

excuse the disgusting engine bay lol

i would go with something that is easy to find and known to work well... edelbrock performer...

top pic is the trans cable, and vacuum hookup... not sure what the bottom is, possibly something smog related? top 2 are needed, not sure about the bottom pic... here in CT we dont need anything smog related on anything over 20 yrs old... hopefully someone else that knows will chime in...
