thanks Jack back to the bone yard I guess

Charlie,

I hope the picture helps give you an idea of what it looks like. I believe it's from a '90's Caravan/ Voyager. I bought mine for like $4.00..can't beat that deal. Just keep looking until you find a good soft, pliable one.

Awhile back Dixie sold new OEM tailgate/ hatch seals for just over $100.

I find that the OEM type traps alot of leaves, dirt, and moisture.

Thanks alot guys. The info. is very helpful. Ribbedroof, you have a great memory. Yes, the wagon was purchased from Mike, in Canyon City, CO. He had a wagon that he meticulously turned into a "Nomad". Very nice fellow, and he and his wife are now friends. Turned out he has a very good friend at the the Air Force Academy that was a Calc Professor. When we are out there we visit with him.

I have found that car guys, or people, are very good. When we went to look at the car he had a "3" hat on and we had our "3" stuff and it was meant to be !!! Cannot wait to finish the wagon for Joel. From the stock 305 it will now have 315hp and 405 ft/lb of torque. Joel has already been challenged by an EVO / Lancer Cadet owner, so he is anxious to represent Chevrolet.

I'll be back for more info. as I finish this up. With the 700R4 the crusing speed at 80mph is 1,900 but I am upgrading from a 2.73 to a 3.23 gear. From what I understand I need to get an 8.5" diff now.

Canon City...my brother managed a Village Inn there for a while...beautiful country.

Sounds like he's going to LOVE that wagon!

I am also looking for the rear tail gate seal. Can anyone point in the right direction?

Ditto for my Dad's old 78' Malibu wagon.

Is Softseal still around ? I thoght they made weatherstripping for 4 door G-Bodys ?

Metro makes the wagon door weatherstripping, Rockauto had it reasonably cheap. No one makes the tailgate seal, but they use the Dodge Caravan seal with success. Hopefully Longroof79 will chime in, he knows all about it.

FWIW, here's what I've done with my wagon:

Got both front and rear door seals here - $60.00 per pair, Metro brand.

Look good, installed easily, but OEM would be better. The driver door has an air leak that I just can seem to get rid of.

For the seal around the tailgate - the one that goes all the way around th frame, i used the Voyager seal, as recomended on this site.Works great, doesn't look like the original. Looks fine to me, I also used it to replace the seal around the spare tire area.
Cheap and plentiful at your local PAP.

For the top of the tailgate, I used the tailgate seal off a late 80's Blazer, also from the PAP. It seals fine, but there are two problems with it:
1 - It doesn't look like the original; it's smaller. No one else notices it.
2 - The Blazer isn't as wide as the Malibu wagon, so I had to get two of them and cut to fit. So there's a seam in the center. Doesn't bother me and I haven't found any leaks yet - but I'm in Phoenix, so not much rain, either.
