hello guys, im new to the forum and could use some help. I recently bought a 79 cutlass, and it has no rust and all the glass is good. The body was sanded and primered. The car has NO bondo anywhere and no dents. Odomator reads 45,*** i do not know if it turned over or not. The motor is a 260 v8 that runs good while it is being ran at idle, but when ever i shut it off after about 20mins or so the radiator starts to steam and i can hear a bubbling noise that sounds like it is coming from the reserve tank. Can anyone give me an opinion of what they think might be causeing my radiator to get so hot and why the bubbling noise? Thanx in advance guys!!

X2 i agree. Try changing the thermostat. When they stick, the engine gets crazy hot very Quick! They're only about $5. Get a 190-195 deg thermostat for your application.

I wouldn't rely on some temp light coming on to think the car could be overheating heck the bulb could be burned out and never come on. Do what the other guys suggested and change the thermostat or just test the thermostat you have by dropping it in a pot of boiling water and seeing if it opens, then that will tell you if yours is working properly. I would also check all your hoses and possibly checking the radiator in case its clogged.
