@Doug, I believe I understand your question but unfortunately I don't have the answer in detail. The primary thing I remember from the conversation I had with the designer is something along the lines of, "I had the frame boxed out and reinforced."
So to answer your question, I don't know to what degree or strategy he used to reinforce the frame but I know he went into great detail and effort to do so....from what I've heard. Sorry,I couldn't be of more help but I'm still in the learning/beginning stage of this....
@L.A.X.-Rated, yes he told me that he was building the frame for a t-top SS Monte and he also explained the reason many t-tops had problems with the original frames they came on from the factory. He 'boxed it out and reinforced it' to help sustain the t-tops themselves and the rails. He was building the frame for personal use, but the body he was going to put it on fail off the lifter and was cracked so subsequently he decided to sale the frame. And fortunate for me I was in desperate need of one. So I guess it was a case of "right place at the right time".
@1bad79, yes it's good to see another 79 cutlass brother out there. I think I'm going to love this site. I'll keep y'all posted with pics on every step of this project.
