This is my 1979 Pontiac Grand Prix, and the subject of my current YouTube build. My first one was a 1978 Ford Fairmont. I'm a sucker for disco era cars for whatever reason. But found this locally with transmission problems, and bought it for $1900. Was hoping it was going to be a simple fix like when I had similar transmission problems on my Fairmont. But that was not the case, and the transmission needed to be rebuilt. Instead of having the shop rebuild a 200C transmission, they built me a BOP TH350 and had them put in a shift kit while they were at it. Sadly I more than doubled the investment in the car with this one move.

A much better car than the Fairmont. Our Fairmont and Zepher were both awful cars as family cars. They were rough riding, unreliable junk. No surprise on the dead TH200. That GP looks in good shape, what motor?

Wow. Brings back memories, I had a white/ camel interior, wire wheels, small vinyl top, white. 1980 LJ GP. It was my classy winter ride to save the TA. Loved the car, poor man’s Caddy, the Buick 6 was a POS.

I certainly can tell some things that are better about the GP over the Fairmont...but there are definitely things about the Fairmont that are tons better than the GP too. Most notably the 302 Ford much cheaper to find parts for than a 301 Pontiac! But because of that I have no plans to touch the motor.
 
Nice car! And a T-350 is a WAY better trans. Nothing wrong with a 301 either. They just quietly do the job and last a long time. Is it the Dual-jet 2 barrel? Because with dead rear gears a Dual-jet is what it needs. You are in the right place for scrounging those hard-to-find parts.

it is (to the best of my knowledge) a dual-jet 2 bbl.

I dropped my 'build plan' or 'design' episode for my car on YouTube a little over a week ago -

 
When I first got my 80, the horn was going off by itself. It went off in the middle of the night, lol At work a camel GP wheel was being scrapped on a display, what luck, I took it, it had brushed silver spokes instead of burl or something like that, but the camel cover was the same, emblem is from that, it’s new.
I have a spare LJ emblem off it too.
