update coming soon. working on getting the body off the frame. just about there. will post some pics next week hopefully. ive been thinking about painting my bumpers the same color as the body. i searched online and coule only find a couple examples of these years cuttys with the bumpers painted and the pics werent that great, but i liked the look from what i could see. anyone got any pics of a 78-80 cutty with the bumpers painted body color they could post so i could see if that is something i want to do ? so far im leaning that way .

allright, after much deliberation and back and forth, this is the final end of discussion paint job i have chosen for the cutty. mine will be painted identical to this, bumpers, trim and all. just with my chevy rally rims. hope this dude whoever he is dont mind me swiping pics of his ride  anyone got any idea how he got his bumpers to have that smooth look ? it doesnt look like he has the plastic impact strips in there any more and it doesnt look like the channel is there where they used to sit ? UPDATE***** figured it out, fiberglass bumpers. can score them for around $200. each from several different suppliers. just another thing to save up for.

wonderful, while taking the front clip off and getting ready to go for the gold and try my hand at my first complete frame off resto, found this sweet little piece of body work. apparently the genius who owned this previously to me decided the best way to go was to stuff it full of newspaper, slather bondo on it, and paint it with undercoating so it matched the windshield sealent. what a nice surprise :blam: . you have to start with the last pic to see what it loked like before then after i dug out the crap.

Oh man that sucks about the rust. Ive been there before with a 67 chevelle I had. Thats why I wont buy another project here in fl. From now on all my projects will come from tx. Not saying that dont rust over there but just not to the extent that they do here. I just wanted to show you a cutlass that I spotted online. When I was doing research for mesh wheels I found this and thought dam, that just looks sick. Made me think about copying that paint/wheel combo.

yeah, that looks exactly like what i want as far as paint. im going for the monochromatic all black look. i havent come across that one yet though so thanks for posting it. the rust thing kind of sucks, but i think thats all there is, the couple places i posted and the battery tray and core support, which is how i met you, looking for a core support..LOL. it looks worse than it is though, shouldnt be to hard to fix i dont think. i been wanting to buy a sandblaster and mig welder anyways, so i guess i really have a reason now. i have a little experience with body work and it doesnt have to look like a pro job since its hidden for the most part. im afraid the dash is gonna have to come out though, i had wanted to avoid pulling it if possible. i just cant believe some ******* packed the dam thing with newspaper and bondod over it  it looks like some college student put a hole in theyre wall and tried to fix it, im surprised they used bondo and not drywall compound. speaking of texas projects, when i was 14 or so my nieghbor started buying the old chevy trucks, the 66-68 style, and parting them out. we lived in ohio, he had a bro in texas and he was a truck driver, his route was from ohio to cali. he would take a load out to cali, and stop by texas on the way home and load up all the trucks his bro would locate for him and bring them back to ohio. once he got them back hed strip them down, sandblast the body parts and prime them and sell all the parts mail order for restorations. i used to hang around the shop and help him out. everything he brought back was always really clean. he used to throw me a few bucks whever i needed it and he gave me a really nice 327 with 68,000 original miles on it, a couple 307's and some other parts for my junk rod projects, plus i got to tag along all expense paid to all the shows he went to as a vendor. pretty much every event in ohio, indiana, michigan, and pennsylvania including the hershey show. i always had a blast, and for a 14 yr old from a tiny farm town in the middle of buttscratch ohio with nothing else to do who loved cars it was a dream come true. id have done it totally for free.

Sorry to hear about the rust. The AC box can be replaced, just pulled off my unit right before winter and believe its in great shape. Something to look into if you want to keep the air.
Process is looking good. Wheels look awesome. I know you like the old school look you can look into a Abody rear end also, they stick out a couple of inches on each side also.
