I inherited a 1980 Monte Carlo Turbo from a deceased family member. I cant find any info on how much this thing is worth as i would like to sell it. I dont have the money to fix up a car.. That being said, this car is in immaculate shape to be its age. Its a one owner with 67,000 original miles on a factory installed turbo engine. I understand that these may be rare as it is a Buick engine. It also has air conditioning, power windows, a Landau top (which i might add is in perfect condition), and the engine runs fine. Even the radio works!! I just cant find any info on this thing. Im sure there would be someone interested in owning a car this rare in this good of shape but i dont want to ask too much for it and i dont want to accept to little for it.. Any info in the right direction would be appreciated!!! Thanks for reading. I have plenty of pics if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Where are you located and what ballpark are you thinking? Pics would definitely help, inside and out, engine and under.... To answer your question, it is relatively rare, but not particularly desirable, if that makes any sense. The early Buick turbo V6's weren't that great, and if memory serves, didn't live very long. (sorry Buick guys!)

I'm interested in some pics , can you email me pls. [email protected]
Yup, a little over 16000 1980 mc turbos were made and a about 3000 81's, a little more than 19000 total built. Rare car but unless you are a fan of mc, not really desirable or worth a lot. Too bad the mid 80's SS didn't get the chance to have the turbo at its peak.

The early Buick turbo V6's weren't that great, and if memory serves, didn't live very long.

The main problem was lack of super unleaded fuel. Running them on regular caused detonation, which caused the knock retard to kick in. The net result was both untoward stress on the motor AND terrible performance. Super unleaded became widely available after they went SFI in '84.

But I looked at a '79 turbo Regal near here a few years ago with either 40K+ or 140K+ (guy selling was not original owner and wasn't sure). It was sound as a dollar, like new and just broken in. Old fart was hard of hearing, took me for a spin with the parking brake on. I kept yelling at him about it but he couldn't hear me. Car roared like crazy, sounded very strong. I passed on it, though.

All that aside, if performance is a goal, I doubt the carburetor version would satisfy.

Don't get the two turbo v6's mixed up. Early ones=not so good
Later ones= potential powerhouses

The 1980 has one of the best body lines of the g body's IMO 1979 being one of my favorites.

You also might try posting on www.turbobuick.com in the Before Black section. They'll want pics there too.

Another issue was the ALUMINUM oil pump. The steel pump gears worry into the aluminum, which causes oil pressure to sag at idle until the idiot light starts flickering and people think the motor is shot, when in fact it's good as new aside from the oil pump.

But none of this is helping the OP much, who really just wants a good asking price. I have no idea.

You can look at NADA classic car values which is very generous. I have an 81 GP LJ which NADA appraises higher than the turbo monte which I can't get a bite at $4000.00.
