Thinking about it, I believe one thing that plagues earlier Buick turbos like this '80 is the knock retard system mentioned above. It's less accurate than later systems, and I've heard it's difficult to replace. Others know more about these finer points in the Before Black section mentioned above.

With the Buick turbo there's "early" and then there's "earlier early."

You will not believe me. I just bought a 80 monte carlo turbo about three weeks ago. It is in the same exact shape. Mine is black with burgendy bucket seat interor. 76000 miles stored last ten years in a garage. Only things wrong are, it was hit in the right rear quarter panel. Last owner fixed it but did not do a real good job. Paint is oxidized, needs buffed out. Bumper trim is falling off, like yours. Was a show car. Never any rust any were. I gave four thousand, he wanted ten. Several in Chicago for sale, not that nice and they want four thousand. Hope that helps.

I would rock that as a weekend family fun car for gun shows and car shows we attend. A day or so of cleaning and tlc she would look good imo. I agree thats the best lines on a g body mc.
Even if you dont have the funds just clean it up and fix what you can. Cover with a breathable car cover after you wash and wax a few times and leave under the carport. And wait. For what you ask? The economy to get better or...... the right buyer. There is a azz for every seat. You just need to find the right seat is all. Myself? I look at it this way. The car was free so it owes you nothin. And having a rare car even if its not everyones cup of tea is awesome. My favorite car in the whole world is a 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix. Just sexy as hell. A boat to some but pure awesome to me.
Anyway welcome and I hope you reconsider your thoughts on this cool car.

I would think you would be very fortunate to get $4000.00 - You have probably seen my 81 on here and I also have a rare 84 Mustang GT turbo convertible, only 731 made that year and the only one painted light academy blue (1 of 1) and it's only in the $4000.00 range. The market is not good right now but ask high - you can always come down.
