What information are you trying to find out, if you know the car that the VIN came from?

That isn't a valid VIN.

That's right. The VIN should have 15 characters in it. Starting in 1981, GM VINs had 17 characters in them.

My 78 elky only has 13 characters in the VIN. My 87 GP has 17. Not sure but I think it changed along with the A to G body designation.

it changed in.... 81? or something like that
now every car has a 17 digit vin

thanx guys it was on ebay and it had the picture of the vin i tried every where to find a site but they kept telling me it was not valid because of the 17 digit thing most gm up to 1980 had 13, 1981 and up has 17 like SBCregal said, any way its more than i want to pay at the moment. thanx for trying didnt know if someone here had another source,it ends tuesday and its in wis. if your interested,$735 right now with 10 bids. thanx again[/list]

It changed starting with the 1981 model year if memory serves me correct. My '78 LeMans has 13 charecters in the VIN, my '81 Malibu 17.
