Hey guys, I found a 84 Monte Carlo SS parts car. It' s a 2 hr drive for me. Drum to drum $150.
I had the guy raise the car and do a wheel spin test. He said in neutral and in gear the other wheel, not being spun, would stay
Wouldn' move forward or backward. He also said he could not spin the wheels in park. I heard not spinning in park is a posi/limited slip trait?
Enough to go 2 hrs to open up the cover?

Yes and even the open with bigger more even sized spider gears will have a better chance of living behind power.

Yes, because $150 is a very fair asking price. Don't the posi rear have a little tag on cover? I drove 2 hours away for my current 1970 Olds 350 #6 heads. They were completely rebuilt with 2.05" intake valves but stock exhaust valves. I asked the guy if a cutter was used to open the bowls. He didn't think so, a cutter was used on all the bowks. Plus they were machined for positive seals on new the guides, which weren't too tight, according to my measurements. All for $400, said there was $1200 work done a couple of years before and put in bags in his basement, they looked freshly machined. Plus he took down the ad and waited a week with no payment, so I didn't haggle. A real stand up guy.

No tag on cover. Not bad of a deal. I've traveled out of state a couple times to get different items. I knew what I was getting though. I just wasn't sure if this rearend was a posi since the other wheel didn' spin forward with the other. But it didn' spin opposite like a 1 wheel wonder.

its possible the brake is stuck on one side. clarify if the drums are on it during the spin test.
