You never know what might have been put under a car or the condition. I looked at a rear the guy swore was a posi, acted like it but upon removal of the cover it was an open. The pinons were installed in such a way they didn't want to turn and the tooth pattern was bad. It might be a gov-lock posi. Get the axle code and it will tell a lot more.

I believe they came with the Auburn stock, if it is a posi. I wouldn't put a Gov Lock behind any kind of power.

Hey guys, I found a 84 Monte Carlo SS parts car. It' s a 2 hr drive for me. Drum to drum $150.
I had the guy raise the car and do a wheel spin test. He said in neutral and in gear the other wheel, not being spun, would stay
Wouldn' move forward or backward. He also said he could not spin the wheels in park. I heard not spinning in park is a posi/limited slip trait?
Enough to go 2 hrs to open up the cover?

The 'spin test' means nothing. As lilbowtie mentioned, pinion gears that are not operating correctly in an open diff will pass your test. A welded unit will do the same. Both an Eaton clutch style posi that needs clutches and a Torsen will fail your test.

FWIW - I'd drive the two hours, I'm always in for any type of adventure.
