Unfortunately the hacking probably won't start until after the holidays since I have real estate classes in the next couple weekends and the car is at my buddies due to lack of space at my house.

What I'm looking at doing is making this a fun streetable track car on a budget. The car itself was $1100.

The main thing is that the mechanical fuel pump has a leak which will be replaced with a stock unit which is about $25.

This car has a 350 already but with the stupid little GM Quadrajet carb since he was going to run it in stock eliminator at first which that plan changed. Right now my buddy said I can have his Holley 650 for nothing since it's just sitting around. He also has a rebuild kit for it. So there's the start to the budget build. Now it's a 350 but the 906 Vortec heads are going to be put on there which means a different manifold will be needed. Also to note the Vortec heads don't allow for much lift for the cam, so I'm kind of limited with that. Looking at Edelbrock manifold as long as it's an 8 bolt hole manifold compared to the typical 12 on the older 350s. The car has open headers right now, so I will look for cheap Flowmaster mufflers probably to do the job along with turndowns on it. It doesn't have a heater or power steering right now which will be eventually put back on. The 10 bolt rear has 2.73 gears which will be changed out to a Monte Carlo SS rear that has posi and 3.73s. That will be no more than $200.

Other things to note on the car is a Turbo 350 with 220 stall converter (don't know brand). It has some other little odds and ends things that would add up such as trans cooler, Competition Engineering drag shocks and air bags.

Current goal with this car is to put the car into the 13s at least for now and maybe push for 12s down the road. Hoping to do all of this under $2000 and that's including the price of the car too. I will have to get interior pics when I can.

It wont take much to get those times. My brown 79 run 13.6 on 17" street tires, no burnout, stiff road race suspension, and a 2.1 60'. A little snort of gas gave me a second with the same layout, and a 1.9-2.0 60'. I picked up the time in the top end.

I ran a 350, vortec heads with beehive springs, modified TBI, comp cam, 2004r w/24-2600 stall, 3.42 gears, 26 inch tall tire.

With what you are gonna do, I think with a good suspension set-up, tires, you should see 13's easy.

Welcome aboard!
You got a good score there. Keep us updated on your progress.
Don't under estimate Q-jet carbs. They can be tuned to perform well...but a Holley 650 for that price can't be beat.
I think a set of Vortec heads should help wake that motor up.

Damn, nice score! Nice foundation, should be able to run mid 13s for less than a grand. 220-230 degree dur. @ .050 cam. Performer RPM intake, that 3.73 rearend and some 26x10 slicks should get you there easy.

Good to know it shouldn't take much to get this heavy Chevy in the 13s.

Just a little update on the car. I finally got a fuel pump installed on the car. MY buddy and I also cleaned up the car a bit since the interior needed some cleaning. I must say the it's not that bad for the wear and tear of that year. Plus the headliner is perfect. Down below is a little bit of fun we had with the car. Just need about $200 for exhaust set up and a wiper motor to get tags for it.

So update. I found a guy close by that has a midpipe, Flowmaster 40 series mufflers and pipes that exit behind the rear tires. So everything from the headers on back and is selling for $150. Will be picking up this weekend and hopefully installing too.

The vortec heads with stock valve springs can basically only handle a stock cam. I know sometimes you can get away with it but its really worth it to just buy new springs.

Good to see you are able to get some parts for it and keep the project going. 😀

Well the guy with the exhaust backed out twice and never contacted myself or my buddy two weekends in a row. We were both pretty pissed and thinking his car must be sitting outside and doesn't want to take the time to take it apart. Either way just ****ing tell us.

Right now it's at my place and I need to start looking at piping for just straight pipes and go into mufflers and leave it at that. Just trying to keep the budget costs low.

Vortech heads are going to be put on hold for now and any other major upgrades. I'm just looking to get a couple things completed to put this car on the street and have fun with it for now and take it down the track.

Just a little pic staying in the garage with the mustang.
