Im getting a brand new posi unit (new from gm thru a friend)
Then saturday or sunday I'm going to canada to pick up a monte carlo ss drum to drum 3.73 rear end.

So its starting to come together.
If my pistons ever get here from italy, I'll be all set.

yeah im going to cut the rust off behind the wheel.
Ive got a friend who makes stock car bodys, so he can make me a filler panel which will work out good.
I'm a cut and weld kind of guy, not really into glass and bondo.
As far as the chrome trim, Im more then likely losing all of it.

I think im also going to remove most of the trunk floor.
My goal is to get this car down to like 2800lbs.

is no easy task to have no putty in your car. there is putty in it out of the factory...... one of my good friends dads who i grew up with helping build rods, he told me that it is a very rare case to find a car that truely has no putty in it. hell they use a skim coat of putty before blocking most show cars. just my thoughts....

no chrome?

and what is the idea about having no trunk floor?

well I plan on shedding msot of the chrome, I guess the window mouldings n stuff are chrome, but will be sanded and painted with the rest of the car.
Actually im curious where I can get new windshield mouldings, I want to remove them for paint, and bet they break on thier way off..

Removing the trunk serves 2 purposes, allows me to sand and paint the frame top and bottom, Also alows me to eliminate alot of un needed weight.
Im probably going to eliminate the tubs too just cut all of it out.
I may replace it with aluminum, but I'm not sure

As said im putting this car on a much needed diet.

as for putty, Basically, Im not using any that I dont need, Its deffinatly not going to be a show car.
I dont want it to look pretty, its a rat rod.
Any dents are getting rubbed hamered out, the car is getting sanded, primered and shot satin black and cleared to protect the paint.
Other then that, Its a go fast car.
No interior, 2 front buckets from a camaro (they weigh like 22 lbs a piece apposed to the calias seats which were probably 50 a piece.
The dash is coming out in favor of something.
For nwo ill probably hang the stock cluster and add the basic 4 gauges.
tach , water temp, oil pressure and voltage.

I just got home from canada with my 3.73 monte SS rearend.
Going to pull it all apart, sand it all down, rusty metal primer and several coats of high heat gloss black.

Its going back together with the new posi, new backing plates, axel seals, wheel cyls, brake pads the works.
The springs were recently changed in this car with new OEM springs, so I'm probably going to leavwe those.
I might get some air shocks for the back.
This is a serious budget build, I will add it all up for you guys when its done. it will be in the 11 or 12 second mark for less then 3g bumper to bumper, all motor. no boost or juice.

If you really want some light seats, look at some from a Saturn or a Neon. I was thinking about the Saturn seats in my AMC before I decided to abandon the car...in the garage...lol

😀

I didnt add it because I did it right before I made dinner, the whole brakes and backing plates are off now too.
Getting ready to clean the rearend up really well and throw a bunch of coats of gloss black on it.

that wheel could end up lookin pretty good. sorry about your bum knee that really has to suck. good progress though keep it up!

Thanks, yeah If i broke that wheel down and knocked the wheel weights off, I could make it alot better, then polish it, but I dont plan on using it so I havent bothered.

Yeah I'm use to knee injurys now 🙁 plagued with them for years.
It'll get better. I'm more concerned with this machine shop taking sooo long to get my parts in.
I want to start putting my motor together.

I should have the old rearend out tonight. Hopen for that actually.
