The whole reason I wound up with an aluminum one was actually a happy accident. My original hood was rotting at the leading edge, so I got a replacement from the junkyard. I got it home, and found it too was rusted there. So, I brought it back with the receipt and went out to find a rust free one. The one I found did not feel like steel when I opened it. Too light. I scraped off the paint, and left it to get rained on while I shopped the rest of the yard. It didn't rust, so I figured it was aluminum. I also grabbed the hood springs at the same time because they were lower tension. If you ever find one, be sure to do this because the steel springs could bend an aluminum hood.

The vynal top came off pretty easy about 40 minutes.
I got it all out from around the windows too.
Id reccomend doing this on a really hot day, park the car outside in the sun from like 11-1, then go to work, makes life easier.
Tools used, a 1 1/2 inch scraper.

Getting ready to cut the floor out and weld in new, then paint the inside.

Im going to replace the side windows with lexan.
Will make it all easier to paint.

I got a favor to ask. I see that you have your console mounts exposed. I am in the process of changing my column over to floor in an El Camino. Could you measure the distance from the cross brace in the floor to the edge of the front and rear console mounts? Outside to outside edge would be fine.
Thanks
