Re: 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 resto

I've been following your build thread with great interest. Your car looks really good-I like that colour on the car. Looks like you've done alot of work. So, are you going to go with the throttle body fuel injection and a serpentine belt setup on the car? Are you going to use a tank mounted fuel pump from an '87-'88 Monte Carlo with the 4.3 TBI V6? Is that serpentine belt bracket that you're cleaning and painting from a truck engine? The truck serpentine setups usually sit higher on the engine than a car setup. I have a 2+2, and I'm on the fence about selling it (partly after looking at your build thread). It will need alot of work similiar to your car (floor, trunk, quarter panels etc). I'd like to see it restored/fixed up and back on the road again-its just going to take alot of time and money. Keep up the good work on your car, and keep the updates coming, thanks.

Yep were using the TBI system and the serpentine setup, and the motor is from a mid 90s conversion van. Post some pics of your 2+2 if you can, id like to see it.

Re: 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 resto

My skills at postings photos isn't very good, and I'm on a dial-up ISP, so I don't think that I can help you with photos. Honestly, right now, the car isn't much to look at, because its in pretty rough shape. Its pretty rusty, and will need a full restoration. I have some stuff for it, which I'd like to use to modify the car for better performance. Looking at the maroon car has got me thinking.

Thanks! the colors kind of growing on me so I might stick with it, yes I think we'll go with the tbi and the serpentine belt setup because I'm really a noobie when it comes to having to change stuff. I kind of looked into the chaging the fuel pump system up but I'm still not sure what we might do and its a braket from a 87-93 van, I checked the clearence and I think it might be ok but we'll find out when we drop it in this year 😀 thats really cool that you have a 2+2 and you'll have a hell of time fixing it up if you keep but if you end up selling it I'm always up for another project 😉 but pm with a price if your willing to let it go

Re: 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 resto

As I said, looking at your maroon car has got me thinking about saving my 2+2. Now that Pontiac is history, and keeping in mind that the 2+2 was a limited edition, one year only car, I can see these cars gaining popularity in the years to come. In retrospect, its almost a shame that GM only offered the one paint scheme on these cars-I think it may have limited their appeal to the public. I can remember seeing one brand new in a local GM showroom in 1986, and thinking what a neat car it is. I know its not everyone's cup of tea, but I still think its a pretty neat car. I'm beginning to think that I'll probably be kicking myself later on if I let it go. I have a 1987 4 bolt main 350 engine that could be rebuilt for the car, as well as an 8 1/2 rear axle from an '87 Olds 442 that will go in, and I've recently seen some photos of a 2+2 that was converted to a manual transmission that looks really neat as well. I do have most of the parts required to do a manual trans conversion on one of these cars. I'm getting a picture in my mind of a 2+2 with a different paint scheme, a 350 with a 5 speed, and the 8 1/2 rear axle with possibly 3.23 or 3.42 gears, and an upgraded suspension, and possibly 16" or 17" Pontiac rally wheels from Wheel Vintiques. Its a neat picture. Anyway, keep up the work on your maroon car, and please keep the updates coming.

Well good luck with the car, and if you cant restore it at the moment, I have one thing to say. If its sitting outside in the grass, pull it out of there and put it in a garage or something. Keep it out of the weather so it doesnt rot anymore than it already has. Please dont sell the car because if you do you're just gonna be kicking yourself in the *ss later. Im really looking forward to your build, and if you need the floors done, maybe me and dylan can help you, being that your only across lake huron from us...

Re: 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 resto

Do they make a 16 or 17" Pontiac ralleys? If so the 2+2 would be the perfect candidate for it! That would be bad arse. It already has 3.08s & a 200-4r doesn't it? But yea with the 200-4r anything from 3.08 to 3.90 would work pretty well. I would have to look at a new gen LS motor or a big rightous Pontiac motor an aluminum headed 474 or new Indian Adventures block.
