Re: Project RS: Regal Sleeper

Well I thought I'd upload some pics of my latest projects-

Cleaning and painting of the engine bay- for some reason every brand of paint I use reacts with the old paint, i don't know what to do. I'm gonna paint the firewall, inner fenders top of rad, and core support. All semi gloss black of course.

And oh, how I love drum brakes, I got new shoes and drums for Christmas, but I need some tools first.

Removed the front bumper and rustproofed the inside-

And most recently, shaved the hood ornament. I can't find it in my heart to remove the sail panel emblems. My dad doesn't like it, but I think he'll come around to it-

Mostly little stuff, but it keeps me busy.

Are you using a good grease remover?

Yeah, I definately cleaned it really well and let it dry for almost 2 months. I can't figure out whats going on. It's driving me nuts. I'm gonna sand it down as much as I can, and try priming and painting with the same brand (I'll try duplicolor this time) and see what happens. I took the engine compartment apart as much as I could without going crazy, I got the wiper motor, fan shroud, battery, washer fluid bottle and overflow tank, and of course the air cleaner.

For the Rims you should go with some 15" T-Type Rims

with some bfg or cooper cobras and you would be set. 235/60/15

And have you decided on a paint colour yet?

Haha, I do happen to like t type rims a lot. At the moment I'm pretty happy with the olds rallye wheels, at first I didn't think I'd like them, but once they where on the car, I really liked them. T type wheels are the only wheels I would change my olds wheels out for, that or camaro wheels. I have decided on paint color- the car will be original med. rosewood metallic with the blackout. I'm pretty satisfied with my pick. I did seriously consider that gold you suggested, but I couldnt pass up the rarity and originality of the rosewood.

Have you washed it or de-greased it?

Also WD-40 is the enemy of paint!

Re: Project RS: Regal Sleeper

FOR what its worth, go with a gloss black, it will look sooo much better:

By the time you put everything in place, hoses, wires, cables, washer & overflow bottles, and such, it will break it up. Semi-gloss on the frame.

Sorta like so:

Re: Project RS: Regal Sleeper

I did my engine compartment with satin black on the plastic pieces and low bloss black on the steel parts.
I think a nice looking engine stands out more with a satin or low gloss black plus it looks closer to stock.
To me older classic cars that came with steel wheelwells look better being a gloss color than the plastic gbody wheelwells.

i agree 100%. in addition, i think the gloss might be too hard to keep clean. actually, i dont think im gonna paint the wheel wells, they are already in pretty good shape, just need a good degreasing. im gonna paint the firewall, fender sides, and rad support at least. everything else is just dusty. so i'll cover up the carb, the alternator, the distributor and and other water- sensitive stuff, and cover it in degreaser and give it a good spray with the garden hose. there isnt any heavy grease, so no need for a pressure washer. i honestly havent touched the engine bay since i took that pic. i have mainly been working on my tach and badge/hood ornament delete. im not going for a show quality engine bay, just something that looks presentable. im gonna post an update hopefully within the next week that has the final results of my tach install, badge delete, and engine bay clean up.

Re: Project RS: Regal Sleeper

I painted my wheelwells even though they were in very good shape, I decided to fill all the factory holes where things were mounted(overflow bottle, cruise, etc) with a plastic epoxy then I sanded all that down and painted them with the satin black you would never know by looking at them that I painted them or filled a bunch of holes.
