Re: Project RS: Regal Sleeper

Well, this week has been relatively eventful in comparison to the last 3 weeks or so. I just about finished up my badge deletes, I just have a little bit more filling and smoothing out to do on the hood ornament, but it should be less than a half hour of work, so it's done for the mostpart. I got my engine compartment really clean, I'm really satisfied with how it came out. I painted the firewall, fender sides, and rad support as well as the sides of the rad. I cleaned everything else up really well, and it's looking 10x better. I finally cut off all those little pegs that hold on the chrome rocker mouldings (yes, I finally decided I am getting rid of the chrome rocker mouldings) and I then was able to put a first coat of short stand fiberglass filler over them. And tonight I finally began working on my power steering situation, just changing the belt and fluid. The fluid was easy, the belt is the biggest PIA I've yet encountered on this car. I worked on it for about an hour with the hel of my dad, and now I just need to tighten it up. Everything was in the way of everything else, so it has been a nightmarous task. The only thing I haven't yet finished it my tach hookup, and I just need to finish wiring it, no big deal. I do have pictures of all my progress, however, my computer is giving me trouble uploading them, so I will try again tomorrow.

Re: Project RS: Regal Sleeper- UPDATE

Nice Progress!! Quick question on your fuel line situation; did you replace large sections with rubber line? If so, I would suggest getting rid of that and using steel line. If you can't find replacement pre-bent, it's not that difficult to buy straight line and bend it yourself. Keep up the good work

Thanks, and No, I used steel line with small bits of rubber line clamped on the ends.

Well I figured I'd make a realistic list of the next few things to be done to my car, these will probably be done over the summer, hopefully done by November at the latest. In order-

1. Button up the body work- not a lot more to do, I have to do some more work on the quarter between the drivers door and wheel well, and then just block sanding, really. I also have to finish up my chrome rocker trim delete.

2. Rear brakes- I took the drum off, put it back on, and haven't touched it since. It'll need done soon.

3. Need to fix the power windows and locks, and wiring and electrical is not my thing, so this'll be a PIA.

4. Shocks- my rear shocks are soft as could be.

5. Paint!- this will take the longest, it will probably take a week to paint it, and I'm still not sure exactly who is painting it. This will also be the most expensive (and the most worthwhile!).

6. Exhaust- I'm gonna put an entirely new system in from the manifolds back, and it'll be a dual outlet camaro style muffler. This will also be well worth the money.

7. I gotta sand all my blacked out trim down with 220 grit and put a couple more light coats of paint on to fix any overspray and knicks that have occurred since I painted them the first time.

And this is just about it for now, I hate to plan too far ahead, but this will get me through the summer and help me stay organized a little bit.

I'm also gonna be starting a side project hopefully by the time summer starts- a big one too. I've decided I'm gonna purchase a 350 chevy and rebuild it. What I want to do is convert my shed into a little workspace with a work surface, and a couple cabinets and an engine stand. Then all I'll need is an engine. I'll make it a summer project. Now, whether this engine will end up in my car or not, I don't know. However, this will happen at some point, but currently I have 5 obstacles in the way-

1. I haven't gotten this one around my parents yet, but I don't think they'll care that much.
2. The weather- it's currently like, 27 degrees outside, so I gotta wait until April at least before I begin.
3. Money, as usual.
4. All the stuff that's in our shed- it's gonna have to go somewhere else.
5. The mice that currently live in our shed. Little buggers better live it up, because once April rolls around, I'm bring out the mouse traps and arsenic.

Re: Project RS: Regal Sleeper- UPDATE

glad you decided on the rosewood color treatment, I love the color, and being seldom seen doesn't hurt either.I think the oxblood interior originally set it off nicely.

I too wrestled with the color choices to go with my oxblood interior... I love that lemans blue color that 307regal has on his, but it wouldn't work on mine. I also didn't want to go everyone else's colors either... there's ALOT of black, white, red, and 2 tone regals/cutlass'/montes running around here, and alot of people tell me to paint it black and make a GN clone.... I don't follow the crowd around me, so why should I make mine look like everyone else's?

looks like you have made some nice progress, and still have a ways to go.... keep at it and don't let setbacks get you down (take it from the voice of experience  ). re-engineer and keep going. I'd def recommend doing the engine project, even if it doesn't end up in your regal, the experience is irreplaceable and worth the time and effort.

keep the build coming, and hopefully I'll re-start my build thread in here instead of the pic section soon....

Thanks, yeah, I have more than a ways to go, but a true hot rod is never done. Im pretty satisfied with the color choice. I've also been told a million times to make it into a GN clone, but the issue with GNs is, you see one, you've seen 'em all. I am definately going to rebuild an engine, because I want to learn how to do it. It may take a few months to actually get an engine (and God knows how long to build it), but it will happen at some point. If the engine does end up in the car, it will be after the v6 craps out.

Restart that build thread sometime, I'd be interested to see it.

My door locks don't work either. I'll be interested to see what you end up doing.
And good luck on that engine build. I plan on starting one myself within the next couple years. I'd start it sooner, but trouble is I'm saving up to move out so I don't wanna blow too much too fast on my car.
Too bad it isn't spring already. This cold weather stinks. The wind blew the cover off my car today so I decided to take it around the block once. Trouble is, it's too cold out for my carb to work and I didn't feel like messing with the choke so I never actually got the thing started.
Man I hate winter...

Thanks, I hear ya on the cold weather. I haven't seen a day over 50 ferenheit since October :x . We're due for a few inches of snow tonight, ugh. And there's no car cruises in the winter. (Lol, I'm definitely a summer person) Yesterday was up in the 40s, so I pushed the car outta the garage, and started it up. I finished up the power steering work a week or two ago, and it paid off. It was nice to see the car run. I've just been keeping myself busy with small stuff and waiting it out. My car has an issue with the electric choke (mines not adjustable). The car won't hold idle until its been running for 7-10 minutes. Once it's warm, it runs like a champ. Ugh, that's a whole 'nother issue...

On a side note, I have some before/after videos of the car from the valve seal job that I'd like to post, but I gotta get a YouTube account, but those will be up soon.

Re: Project RS: Regal Sleeper-Valve Seal Results

well I had nothing to do, so i decided to figure out youtube. heres some before and after videos of my valve seal job-

before (taken april/may 2012)-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DirIT-1Ql8E

after (taken yesterday)-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGQDKbWzYkE

and before anyone says it, i know that in the first video the car sounds like a lawn mower, and in the second it just sounds shitty, well in reality, it doesnt sound like either of those. my cameras microphone just sucks...
