1987 Cavalier- wow!

That's not even a good looking year. If I was forced to drive one, at least give me a 90-94.
I remember the V6's had no top end, even the 3.1 was out of breathe up top. They sure felt good but when a Turbo Sunbird put a whooping on my friend's 3.1. I've looked down at them ever since.

Anyways this will not change the market price. This is that one car for that one guy who dearly misses his old J body.

Stop ******** on prices, don't like it. Don't buy. Some of us like to dream and if I ran into money. I won't need " A deal " to change my mind. I would just buy what I want, even if it was overpriced.

My general feeling on gateway stuff is that they take what the consignor wants, add 50%, and hope they hit a home run. This is based on what I’ve been seeing on muscle car era and beyond when listed at one of their locations
Exactly right-

I sold an '87 El Camino through Gateway last year (the one in my icon). Told them I wanted $7,500 for it, so their price came in at $12,500.

Advantages:

No one called me with stupid questions
No one offered me a low ball price
Gateway provides financing to their customers, increasing the number of people who may buy the car
The car was parked indoors at the Gateway facility and out of my garage. This allowed me to move on to other projects.
Gateway made the online listing and put it out on the internet at no charge to me

Disadvantage:

I didn't get the full $12,500.

The last isn't really a disadvantage, as I would have had a hard time getting more than $7,500 listing it on Cars.com, Facebook Marketplace, or Craigslist. I think the Gateway service justifies their markup. Overall I was satisfied, and I think they liked having a car in the building priced below $15 k, since it offered them low price option to draw in customers they might not see otherwise.

I love 1st gen J-bodies. My friend own a 1985 cimarron and i think its way more fun than it has any right to be. 36k is way too much for sure but its still a great looking car.
2 door 5 speed and the gen 2 60* v6 is a nice combo for sure.

That third gen J bodies in the Z24 trim were properly quick down low. Certainly quicker than my stock Cutlass was if I remember.

But I always really liked those Sunbird GTs

Is it a 20k car? I'd say absolutely. Probably not if whoever is pulling the strings on the senile fool in the white house hadn't declared war on ICE vehicles and made Jimmy Carter look like an economic genius, but, you've got to look through the lens of the world we are living in and at what cars remain to buy new, or even with 5,000 miles on them, cost today.
Unfortunately, that really is where Hollywood/college party-talk has gotten us in the real world, and to the degree it prevails, ICE generally can only go in this direction.

I love the "don't b!tch about prices"..

Um no, people are living in delusion and need to be told..

But hey if you have more money than brains, feel free to appease them.
Some guy listed a 25k-mile '78 Cutlass in Whitehall PA for $15k. Looks like it's been sitting under an oak tree for 10 years with 4 flat tires, and a waterlogged interior steaming up the windows. A log must have fell on the roof. I told him it was worth $3500 months ago and apparently there wasn't a title until this week (estate car). He's 'marked it down' to $8k after he reached out for our last talk. He's 'self employed'.
