BUILD THREAD 1988 Monte LS

Well I figured I would start a thread with all the things I am doing to the Monte.

The more I play/work on these Chevys the more I wish I bought a Ford...


This is how I found her sitting there for 10 years according to the state inspection.

Today I played with a Tig welder trying to close up all those lovely holes Chevy decided to punch into the fender to hold on the moldings.


I quickly found out I have no idea what I am doing.....

To the fastest way to plug those holes is with a mig Welder and a copper pipe.
Hammer flat the end of the pipe so it looks like a body spoon hold it to the back of the panel flat and weld to it from the front. The weld won't stick to the copper and the pipe will peal off leaving a smooth surface in back and a small plug weld lump in front that grinds off in seconds

That is what i did but with a tig

Little work today.

Grinded down welds, then hit it with a DA and a quick coat of primmer just so it doesn't flash rush.

No plastic on it yet waiting for the rain and no room in garage for fender with Malibu in it. 🙁

House was built in 1942 cars where 3 times the size of G-Body's

Why the heck is the garage so small?!?!?!?!

So this is what the SS bumper cover was going to be for. It's too bad GM didn't just 3M tape the chrome on.
Are you keeping the LS front nose because if you decide to covert to SS you will need the fenders.

Keeping the LS nose.

Need the SS rear bumper because of removing the stainless trim.

Not only do the LS bumpers have the chrome strips that do come off fairly easy.

They are also wider so they match up to the stainless trim.

What is different about the fenders besides the turn signal?
