If goin carb you can use your power harness and ditch the emission harness and computer.

So I dont need the chevy wiring harness at all?

I don't think so, unless going efi. You can use a vacuum adv distributor, the alt is part of your power harness, the starter and ignition wires are part of your battery and power harness, and the sending units can either be spliced into your dummy lights or get aftermarket gauges for them. I think that is it for a carb engine swap.

The Olds 350 will be a direct swap and the transmission will also bolt right up to it. As far as any ungraded performance parts for an Olds 350, you are looking at a lot more money. Just new headers and an aftermarket aluminum intake would cost you about $800.

I know for a fact it doesn't cost that much for headers and an intake. Headers can be bought for less than $200 and I am not sure about the price on an intake, but they are not $600. Besides, most people buy them used for around $150 or less. I found one for $40 that was very clean.

I don't know, he's looking for a good daily with "some power", I think a stock olds 350 has more than enough "some power", so I think the performance part's price's are a little bit of a moot point, especially if he finds a complete olds 350 and does a stock rebuild with minimum performance parts, especially if he ditches the granny gears and slaps in say a 3.73 gearing behind that 200r4. I'm pretty sure he would feel pretty good about how it has "some power" 😀

I was starting to have my mind set on the chevy 350 but now your convincing me to get an olds 350  . I've always wanted an olds 350 but I always hear alot of ppl on here talking about how its harder to find parts and there more expensive so that made me leans towards the chevy. But I think ima try to find an olds 350 cuz if i did I would try to do a stock rebuild and that should be enough power just like you said. And I dont think stock rebuild kits shouldnt be that hard to find but i dont know

research is key! once you find a motor, make sure you shop around for your rebuild kit, I just did a fast search using ebay motors and there's is a few kits between 400-500 dollars, and thats just ebay, plug in "oldsmobile 350 rebuild kit" in a google search bar and there's alot more, good luck and it's a great feeling when you have your car running cherry and no one's responsible for it but you, your blood, sweat and sometimes literally tears, and of course some of your buddies if you got those kinds. I should know I hit my hand with a hammer yesterday while removing upper rear control arm bushings 😀

Your build sounds pretty much like mine. I paid 350 bucks for a 1970 350sbo and th400 trans. Rebuild has probably cost me about 1500 in parts and minimal labor. I work at a parts store so I get a discount, but I would still say that doing most of the work yourself will save a ton of money. Be patient, and dont guess when it comes to something important. Ask anybody on here for advice and they will be glad to offer it.
