2 seperate wiper controls?

For some reason my malibu has a non intermitant wiper control lever on the dash along with the intermitant wiper control on the multifunction switch on the column. I had the car running but just for a few min to move it and now its in pieces so I cant test what is what.

The non intermitant has control over: Off, Low, Low and Wash, and High
The intermitant switch has control over: Off, Low, Incremental speed, High, Independant wash (or low wash).

Any idea what the deal is here?

I'm guessing the steering column had been changed at some time. And they put one in from a newer gbody (the later ones have the control on there).

+1 wrong column in the car ... prior to 82 they had dash controls
