I’ve been messing with my 200-r4 for a while and can’t get the shift points where I want them. I’ve been manually shifting it due to this issue. After messing with the governor, the shift point in now around 4200 RPM but would like it to be around 5500 RPM. Also would like it to automatically downshift a little more aggressively than it does. Any suggestions?

I would also like to install a better console shifter mechanism. I remember that my buddies old 77 TA had a console shifter that would only upshift one gear at a time when it was “bumped” during a manual shift. Again, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. This is the original transmission that is 23 years old!!!

I just installed the upgraded detent bracket -- easy install, took about 15 mins. It's a nice upgrade and it's inexpensive....

I came across a writeup by a transmission builder (can't remember where) that talked about lightening the weights on the governor with a grinder. He said it's a trial and error thing but if you go too far you can just weld on more material. The one thing he kept stressing is not to mess with the TV cable. Has NO effect on shift points. If you do try grinding the governor, let us know hoe it works out.

Thanks for the info -- I'm sort of done flocking around with the transmission for now but I will post the results if I go back at it...

Go to Turbo Buick.com and find out how to change your shift rpm. Or buy what you need.

My trans guy last week was changing my shift points to where I wanted them last week with the TV cable after a shift kit install. I know the perfered way is with the weights.
