200-r4 transmission cooler

Well, the reason to run the secondary cooler after the radiator cooler is that when you are idling in traffic, the radiator does the cooling. At speed, the secondary cooler could conceivably cool it then the coolant could warm it back up again, thus negating the cooler's effect if plumbed the other way.

I do not use an aftermarket cooler on my G body, but do have one on my AMC. It seems that the Torqueflite 727 was not getting enough cooling from the radiator cooler (I think the fittings were too small going into the radiator) and it would puke trans fluid everywhere when I would load it against the brakes at the dragstrip, or even driving down the road for a little while! I got the biggest one I could find and eliminated the in radiator cooler which fixed it. As a side note, this car has had every minor or major technical problem that one could conceive of having and it loves to not start, not charge, not cool, and not be very fast all while costing lots of money to do nothing well.

just about any trans cooler will do a better job than the one in rad.

If you ever take a rad apart you will see that it is nothing more than a coil inside one of the tanks on the side of the rad. I think the ride down the lines to the rad cool it more !

Like the other poster said, on the G-body cars mount it to the condensor ( in front ). If no AC then mount it in front of the rad. This way the fan will pull the air thru the unit when sitting in traffic.

the nice things about it is the "self regulating" feature. you find it on some VERY good, but more expensive, coolers. and a plate style, with mounting kit! for that price is great.

One thing bad about these coolers is if you try to flush the system either you wont get everything out or have to brake stall it till the thermostat opens....kinda irrelevant since most just change the filter and pan gasket but....I was told its best to use somthing without any restrictions.

IMO its a waste because trans fluid can never be to cool at any time, esp in a street/strip application.I can buy a good B&M(Long) cooler,-6 an lines, and -6 fittings for cheaper than the cost of that cooler with rubber lines.
