anybody know the torque specs for the bellhousing of a 2004r in an 86 cutlass with a 307 VIN Y?

Tight. 😉

I'm a big fan of using a torque wrench but this is something I've never bothered to use a torque wrench on. Probably because its almost impossible to get one up in there.

it is something i've never heard of myself, but my shop teacher said that there is a torque spec for them and it needs to be done properly.... but i think i will be alright.

thanks

there's a torque spec for everything--especially when you're a student!
the shop should have access to MOTOR, ALLDATA, something like that right?
i just tighten them in turn until i'm sure the housing is flush with the engine, then crank 'em. like ^he said, you really can't get a torque wrench in there anyway.

Okay, looked it up in my '87 CSM:

Transmission-to-engine bolts: 35 lbs.ft.
Mount to transmission support: 25 lbs.ft.

I found that if your using a 1/2" ratchet, if you get the bolt as tight as you can with that, it works out to be right around 35 lbs.ft.

As said, everything has a torque spec, its just not crucial to torque everything. Suspension components, internal engine components like rods, main caps, head bolts, flywheel/flexplate, etc. are crucial pieces to be torqued.

Even the valve cover bolts of a torque spec but its pretty pointless to use a torque wrench on them.

That being said, I did torque my bellhousing bolts but I did it while the engine/trans was out of the car so it was easy enough to do.

thanks for looking that up. don't know how i'm going to get a torque wrench in there though.... lol

and yeah, my highschool has alldata pro, but all that says is how to remove the transmission, and then to install all it says is to reverse order
