200r trans and gears combo

What's the smallest number ratio in gears that'll still do good behind a 200r trans and a 300hp motor? Would 2.56 gears be too small?

It depends on how the engine is built and what your goals are, but in general 2.56 gears behind an OD transmission ( .67 gear ratio ) is pretty lame. That would make the already puny 2.56 gears equivalent to 1.71 when in OD. That's pretty damn weak.

Thanks, so it would be best to not put anything smaller than 3.42's in if using overdrive?

I had 2.56 gears with the 2004r, they sucked. Lugged much more than the 3.42 gears.
