200r4, how much torque can it handle, how much horse power?

I've given up my dream of a fast buick 3.8l

I'm buying a 350 from a 1980 corvette. Has a four bolt main. Will this destroy the 200r4 from typical everyday driving? I don't race people.

Also now that I'm finally switching to chevy parts I'm possibly considering manual transmission.

Does anyone know which is a stronger trans?

t5
or
t10?

I'm aware one is a 5 speed and the other a 4

A stock 200-4R is marginal behind a 140 HP Olds 307 (I've fragged two so far). The Turbo Buick community has found and fixed all the weak links in this trans, however, as properly built 200-4Rs will survive behind in 9 sec GN. Either CPK or CPT (depending on which coast you're closer to) can help with the right parts.

The T10 was factory offered behind big blocks. The T5 was marginal behind a 305.

The T10 is generally acknowledged to be a stronger transmission than the T5. The early T5 was not very strong, GM would not use them on any engine larger than a 305. In 1988, the T5 was upgraded to what was called a World Class T5, which was a stronger unit, and it was used through 1992. The 200R4 is good for lower horsepower applications in stock form, but if you're planning on serious power, then the 200R4 will need some upgrades. I have a friend who installed a 502 crate engine in an '87 Monte SS. The 200R4 was rebuilt with heavy duty parts, and the car was both street driven and drag raced for several years with that transmission.

Well, since the 350 that was in the '80 vette only had about 190 hp, your 200-4R will be fine behind it. The fact that it will just see driver duty and not drag race duty helps even more.

i was going to say the same, a 80 vette motor does not have that much power. i think you will be fine as long as you are not smashing on the throttle all the time like i do lol

190 HP? wow why did I even bother? Ok, let's say I buy all forged pistons, cranks etc

If I hook up a GM5 turbo, can this block handle it considering it's only a 2 bolt main? I picked one up for 200 dollars in pretty good condition.

How much HP would I be pushing?

It's the pollution heads that steal most of the power

lol yeah... 80's vettes were a total waste...

if your going to go with new heads you might want to look at vortec heads....and you'll need to change the cam
