3.8L v6 in my '84, looking for some ideas of things I can do to increase performance. I don't want to swap engines, just make this one badass. They put them in the Grand Nationals so I KNOW it can be done. Lol this is my second GBody, my last was an '81 Mali but I never worked on it. Oh yeah, and where can you get these upgrade parts? Thanks!!!

The GN 3.8 is very diffrent on the inside. and to be honest the 3.8 really is better left stock.

Really? Aren't they both GM motors?

these can be for starters. I know an edelbrock performer intake and holley 450cfm on a stock v6 will be a significant upgrade without really haveing to go internal, lol. as far as internal specs, i can tell ya .030 over in pistons would be great but nothing really more or else you'll start to worry about cooling issues, but id get ahold of some of those GN guys, and ask them, lol

Thanks you both for the tips, and links! Do you guys know where to find "straight pipes"? I was told that can also increase power and fuel economy, somewhat. Lol

Unfortunately, never gonna happen. The carbed 3.8 is a junk motor for performance period. If you really want to be 'badass', you're going to have to swap motors. Meanwhile, you can get a nice 2004r transmission, some better gears, and a nice exhaust system ( which you can then re-use with a new motor ). in other words, work around the 3.8 not on it.

Straight pipes are simply exhaust pipes with no mufflers or cats. About all that would be worth doing to get more Pwr is better rear end gears as stated & a 4 barrel intake & carb from a 4.1 Buick v6.
